28. Marjanne Pugh
Marjanne lives in Westbury and is acknowledged as a formidable source of quiet supportwithin her community.
Examples of her dedication to others include:
- providing crisis accommodation to young people
- boarding clients with significant mental health issues
- supporting a homeless gentleman through his alcohol withdrawal and rehabilitation
- regularly volunteering in a range of community projects such as the Westbury Woodwork Group and the Westbury Community Garden.
Marjanne never fails to help when asked and always provides very practical support. In truth, no one really knows just how much Marjanne does for others. She never seeks acknowledgement or reimbursement for anything. Often, we only hear about her activities when someone remarks how lovely Marjanne is and what she has done for them.
Marjanne is a shining example of harmony in action. She has a deep respect for people and a great capacity to care. She often expresses concern that she feels sheshould be doing more for her community.
The Torch Bearer Award strives to honour the goodness inherent in every heart. Marjanne has goodness in abundance and it’s wonderful that today her communitycan acknowledge that and thank her through this very special award.
