USA 16 May: Kansas KS - Iola KS

After a good nights sleep at the Hilton Garden in Kansas...

...The women's team set out early, running through farmland as the sun ascended the morning sky.

The first port of call was a small town called Tonganoxie, which is named after a Native Indian chief. A welcoming committee of some of Tonganoxie's residents stood waiting with balloons, flags and water. We held a small ceremony and shared stories with the friendly locals.

They each held the torch making a wish for peace.

and some accompanied us on our journey forward...

We continued down route 59 South and came across Pinckney Elementary school where the children happened to be on lunch break. Scores of curious children came running to see what a person with a lighted torch was doing running through their town.

So we gave an impromptu ceremony, sang our World Harmony Run song and handed them stickers.

Our final destination was Iola KS, where we were very kindly offered a meal by a delicious buffet restaurant called Opies.

One of the staff members was from Belarus so we introduced him to the two Belarussians on the team.

It was a great day!!!
