日本 Japan 10 May: Miyako - Morioka 宮古~盛岡

We arrived in Miyako the night before, which is the finishing point of our coastal relay. From this point on, we will start running toward inland along Route 106. It is still quite chilly, but a really picturesque route.

Team B headed for Kawai Elementary School, about 13km from Miyako City. It is a school with only 16 students along the mountain. The children welcomed us with their simple and pure hearts.

Meanwhile, Team A visits Miyako Elementary School and meet the 5th and 6th graders.

Each one holds the torch with their wish for peace and harmony.

A reporter from Asahi Shimbun Newspaper came. He got to know about us being in town because a reader called his office the night before saying "A torch runner is running in town!" You can read the article here (in Japanese).

Catching up with the sleep....

Now we are close to the climax of the day. About a few kilometers away from the ceremony, we meet five members including Captain Yamamoto, from the local professional basketball team Iwate Big Bulls. They will run with us to the ceremony from here (please see their official blog on this occation).

In addition, Mr. Nakamura of Sports Division, Iwate Prefecture Board of Education, Mr. Sasaki, Representative of SAVE IWATE Tokyo Office, and others joined and we all ran to the ceremony venue, which is in front of Iwate Prefectural Office (Governor's office).

We were joined by the choir of Kozukata High School, who have won the national gold medal several times. Their performance was simple, beautiful, and joyful. Our gratitude goes to all the members and especially to the director Ms. Reiko Muramatsu, who kindly agreed for her choir to be part of the Run despite the distance and their busy schedule.
