Alan Spence, the Scottish poet and novelist, welcomes everyone and recites a poem from the great Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas. The final line of the poem reads, "..... the only surprising thing about miracles, however small, is that they sometimes happen".
Executive Director of the World Harmony Run, Salil Wilson acknowledges the graciousness of the City of Cardiff in accepting the statue.
The statue is unveiled
The World Harmony Peace statue is presented by the World Harmony Run to the city of Cardiff in the 25th anniversary year of the World Harmony Run
The plaque to commemorate the inauguration of the statue. The words include a quote: "Peace is not merely the absence of war. Peace is the dynamic and energetic presence of love, harmony and oneness in the world family" - Sri Chinmoy.
Stephen Thomas, an international affairs commentator, plays the role of MC for this significant function
The statue is designed to be an interactive piece of art which invites the onlooker to hold the torch and offer a silent prayer for Peace
John Evans (left) coordinated the event
The Cardiff Male Choir fill the air with their powerful voices. One of their songs is Calon Lan which means Pure Heart. The translation of the chorus runs:
A pure heart is full of goodness
Lovelier than the fair lilly
Nothing but a pure heart can sing
Singing by day and singing by night
The Executive Director of the World Harmony Run, Salil Wilson, holds the torch with the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress
Alun Owens (far left) and other representatives from the Urdd hold the torch with Stephen Thomas (far right). The Urdd was established in 1922 to give children and young people the chance to learn and socialise through the medium of the Welsh language. The Urdd are working with the World Harmony Run to carry the torch to schools in Wales this year
The sculptor, Kaivalya Torpy, holds the torch
The team of runners hold the torch together
After the inauguration of the statue everyone is invited into the Wales Millenium Centre for a concert. These giant letters on the Wales Millenium Centre look out from a face of steel like an ancient promise: In These Stones Horizons Sing
A children's choir from the Urdd sing in Welsh
A music group called Ananda sing songs composed by the founder of the World Harmony Run, Sri Chinmoy
The Cardiff Male Choir enchant the audience with their choral arrangements which culminate with the singing of the Welsh National Anthem
The mist rises to reveal yet another glorious sunny sky and once again the runners are off on the road......
The Welsh valleys have kept a welcome for us
We visit Henrhyd Falls
