As we awoke in the old Sicilian City of Catania we knew that the first ceremony of the day was at the Instituto Cutelli High School where our friend Giuseppe Grasso teaches Greek and Latin. The Director of the School, Rosetta Camelleri should be very proud of her students for we were saying for we were saying that it was one of the nicest High School Ceremonies that we have ever experienced.

We often find that older students tend to be more closed and cynical but these teenagers were sincerely interested in what they could do in their own lives to become more peaceful and to contribute positively to the world. We were so fortunate to have one the students, Giandomemco Zappia translate our presentation into Italian. His english was quite exceptional.

Come ci siamo svegliati nella città di Catania sapevamo che la prima cerimonia del giorno sarebbe stata al istituto Cutelli, dove il nostro amico Giuseppe Grasso insegna Greco e latino. Il direttore della scuola, Rosetta Cammelleri dovrebbe essere molto fiera dei suoi studenti in quanto abbiamo detto che è stata la migliore cerimonia mai fatta.

Spesso abbiamo visto che spesso gli studenti più vecchi sono più chiusi e cinici ma questi adolescenti erano sinceramente interessati a cosa fare nelle proprie vite per divenire più pacifici e contribuire positivamente nel mondo. Siamo stati così fortunati da avere uno degli studenti, Giandomenico Zappia tradurre la nostra presentazione in italiano. Il suo inglese è stato molto buono.

In addition to the huge banner that the students made, they also wrote postcards with messages for us.

"The race for peace is a race for life and the respect of all liberties"

"I hope more people will understand the scope of your run. It is one of the most noble and easily shared messages and we hope that more people join your initiative. "

In aggiunta al gigantesco striscione fatto dagli studenti hanno anche scritto cartoline con dei messaggi per noi.

Ecco due messaggi:

"La corsa per la pace è una corsa per la vita e il rispetto di tutte le libertà."

"Spero che più persone capiranno lo scopo della vostra corsa. E' uno dei messaggi più facili da diffondere e speriamo che più persone si uniscano alla vostra iniziativa.

We discovered, as we entered the town of Giardini di Naxos, that the movie The Big Blue was filmed here.

The Vice Mayor of the Town, Nello Lo Turco, gave us an opportunity to visit the Town Hall and to make a short presentation to some of the staff members present.

Il Vice Sindaco della città, Nello Lo Turco, ci ha dato l'opportu nità di visitare il Municipio e fare una breve presentazione dei membri presenti.

The whole team was really looking foward to visiting the famous coastal city of Taormina. Besides the beautiful beaches, Taorima is well known for the tower that sits upon the cliff top overlooking Mt. Etna and the coastlines of Sicily and Italy.

L'intero team aspettava con ansia di visitare la famosa città costiera di Taormina. Oltre che per le bellissime spiagge, Taormina è ben conosciuta per la torre che stà sulla collina verso l'Etna e le bellissime coste.

Arriving in Messina we met runners from Proform Road Runners Club . The President of the Club, Pippo Smedile, was so excited to be able to run with us with some of his members.

Il presidente del club, Pippo Smedile era così entusiasta di correre con noi con i suoi membri.

The Mayor, Mr.Genovesi, welcomed us to Messina and was kind enough to conduct several TV interviews with the 3 TV stations that were present. The City Minister of Sport, Mr Gallo and a Representative of the Provence were also present to welcome our team of international runners.

After a long day on the road we had a chance to relax on the ferry to Italy. We were all looking forward to seeing our Southern Italian coordinator, Stefano Cenni.

Il Sidaco, Sig.Genovesi, ci ha dato il benvenuto a Messina ed è stato così gentile da condurre diverse interviste TV con tre diverse emittenti. Il Ministro dello Sport, Sig. Gallo, era anche presente un rappresentante della Provincia per incontrare il Team internazionale di runners.

Dopo un lungo giorno sulla strada abbiamo avuto l'opportunità di rilassarci sul traghetto per la Calabria. Pensando all'incontro con l'organizzatore del sud italia Stefano Cenni.
