Italy 3 April: Regio Di Calabria - Lameza Terme

Before saying good-bye to the port city of Reggio Di Calabria we first visited the Pascoli Primary School. All the children had such a great time passing the torch around and meeting Madhurima from Denmark and Rose from Holland.

From the school we headed to the City Hall for an appointment with the Minister of Sport for the City, Mr. Agliano.

The next school we visited was Principe di Piemonte Primary School where we were surprised to meet Mr. Agliano again.

He even joined us as we ran around the playground with all the children. It gave the children a lot of joy to have someone in a suit running with them.

We would like to mention a special thanks to the local runners that offered to cover some of the course for us. It was our longest day yet and without their help we would not have been able to reach our final destination by nightfall with all the ceremonies.

It's days like these that having an ultra-distance runner like Namitabha really comes in handy. He craves the chance to run many of our km during the day and we were happy to offer him this opportunity.

On the way to Lameza Terme we met the runners from two clubs. The President of the Violetta Club, Mr. Pirico, provided us with these enthusiastic young runners.

Mr. Sesto, President of the Libertas Club, brought along some of his experienced runners.

Although it had been raining most of the afternoon, Mr Paola, the Minister of Sport for the City, Mr. Lucchino, the Minister of Economy for the city and the Mayor, Mr. Speranza still took the time to meet with us. They kindly offered us some light refreshments before escorting us to the hotel that the City Hall had arranged. We were also interviewed by all the local newspaper and local TV.
