Castrovillari - Trebisacca - Ginosa

At 8.30am we left our cosy accommodation joined by the owner who kindly looked after us. She joined us for the three different schools we visited that morning in Castrovillari......

Alle 8.30 abbiamo lasciato la la nostra accogliente sistemazione ritrovandoci con la proprietaria che gentilmente si è presa cura di noi. Lei si è unita a noi nelle tre differenti scuole che abbiamo visitato quella mattina in Castrovillari.....

When we arrived at the first school a large group of children were waiting for us in a semicircle. We really had to stretch our vocal cords in order to address this energetic bunch. After passing the torch to them all we ran around the yard like a herd of deer. Overjoyed parents and teachers also joined in the fun and ran a lap with the torch.

quando siamo arrivati alla prima scuola un ampio gruppo di bambini ci stava aspettando in semicerchio. Abbiamo davvero dovuto forzare le nostre corde vocali per indirizzare questo energico gruppo. Dopo aver passato la torcia a tutti loro abbiamo corso una yard tutt'intorno come un branco di cervi. Felicissimi genitori e insegnanti anche si sono uniti nel divertimento ed hanno corso un giro con la torcia.

We ran a little further down the road and into the next school. The children were waiting in line and as we ran into the yard they gazed upon the torch with awe. The children were very sweet, especially the younger ones who ran around the yard whilst holding hands. Shortly after 10 o’clock we yet again ran further down the town. This time we were joined at the last 200 metres by children who ran with us into the school. They were full of enthusiasm and when they started running they gained so much momentum there was no stopping them!

Abbiamo corso un poco lungo la strada fino alla scuola successiva. I bambini stavano aspettando in linea e mentre correvamo nella yard fissavano la torcia con meraviglia. I bambini sono stati veramente dolci, specialmente i più giovani che hanno corso intorno la yard mentre tenevano la torcia fra le mani. Brevemente dopo le 10 correvamo ancora lungo la città. Questa volta si sono uniti a noi negli ultimi 200 metri i bambini che correvano con noi nella scuola. Erano pieni di entusiasmo e quando hanno iniziato a correre hanno guadagnato così tanta velocità che non era possibile fermarli!

There were over 200 children in this school and we were grateful for a large sound system to be able to talk to them. They listened attentively as we shared our message with them and vice versa as some children read out some poems of harmony. As the torch went around to every single child, loud music was played through the sound system, which excited the children even more. They began singing and bouncing up and down, and a group with colourful streamers began waving them frantically creating a wonderful visual effect. The children formed a large dancing line somewhat like the cha-cha. This caught on very quickly and eventually everyone was either dancing in a line or alone. To witness such joy was indeed a wonderful spectacle!

C'erano oltre 200 bambini in questa scuola e siamo stati veramente grati per l'imponente impianto acustico che ci ha permesso di parlare con loro. Ascoltavano attentamente quando condividevamo il nostro messaggio con loro e viceversa quando alcuni bambini leggevano ad alta voce alcuni poemi sull'armonia. Mentre la torcia passava in cerchio ad ogni singolo bambino, veniva suonata attraverso l'impianto sonoro musica ad alto volume che eccitava i bambini ancora di più. Hanno iniziato a cantare e saltare su e giù, ed un gruppo con stelle filanti piene di colore ha iniziato a farle ondeggiare in modo agitato creando un meraviglioso effetto visivo. I bambini hanno formato un'ampia fila danzante, qualcosa simile al cha-cha-cha. Questo ha preso veramente velocemente ed alla fine ognuno stava danzando in fila o solo. Essere testimoni di tale gioia è stato davvero un meraviglioso spettacolo!

After our exciting morning we began running along the coast once more. We reached Trebisacca after 30 km and stopped briefly along a stony beach. Only two went swimming while the others thought the water was a little cold - can you imagine, along the coast of southern Italy! Over the rest of the day we covered the distance in good time. At 5 o’clock we met with runners 5km outside the town of Ginosa. It was an enjoyable run at a good pace up the hill to the town centre.

Dopo la nostra eccitante mattinata abbiamo iniziato a correre lungo la costa una volta ancora. Abbiamo raggiunto Trebisacca dopo 30 km e ci siamo fermati brevemente lungo una spiaggia sabbiosa. Solo 2 sono andati a nuotare mentre gli altri hanno pensato che l'acqua fosse troppo fredda - potete immaginare, lungo la costa del sud Italia! A fine giornata abbiamo coperto la distanza in un buon tempo. Alle 5 ci siamo incontrati con i runners 5 km fuori dalla città di Ginosa. E' stata una gioiosa corsa di buon passo sulla collina fino al centro della città.

After some photos and an interview in the main square we left for a nearby sports centre to shower. Two local runners accompanied us to a nice Italian restaurant and treated us to a delicious meal of either pizza or pasta. Whilst enjoying the meal the Mayor and other organisers did a great job of finding us some nice accommodation for the night.

Dopo qualche foto ed un'intervista nella piazza principale siamo andati nel centro sports vicino per lavarci. Due runners locali ci hanno accompagnato in un bel ristorante italiano e ci hanno offerto un delizioso pasto di pizza o pasta. Mentre gustavamo il cibo il sindaco ed altri organizzatori si sono dati molto da fare per trovarci una sistemazione confortevole per la notte.
