Padova - Anguillara - Ferrara - San Giovanni - Bologna

The sun was setting as we ran the final 7km of the day into the city of Bologna. We were accompanied by 6 or 7 members of a local running club and had a very effective police escort that did not allow a single car to pass us for the entire distance. This certainly generated a lot of interest amongst the many passers-by, who applauded as we ran past.

Il sole stava tramontando mentre correvamo i 7 Km finali del giorno nella città di Bologna. Siamo stati accompagnati da 6 o 7 membri di un club di corsa locale ed abbiamo avuto una scorta di polizia davvero efficiente che non ha permesso a nessuna macchina di sorpassarci per l'intera distanza. Questo ha certamente generato molto interesse tra i molti passanti, che hanno applaudito mentre passavamo di corsa.

Two hours later the moon had risen high above us and we had still not managed to locate our dinner. As it was another 15km out of Bologna, we had some problems negotiating the way. The highlight of the increasingly farcical situation was when somebody said, “Sorry, I was following the wrong car”. A generous friend of the local World Harmony Run coordinator provided dinner for us at his garden party. When we had finished eating, a small crowd gathered around our computer to watch the World Harmony Run video, and see our photographs from the day. They were delighted at the impromptu entertainment.

Due ore più tardi la luna si è levata alta sopra di noi e ancora non riuscivamo a localizzare la nostra cena. Eravamo 15 Km fuori da Bologna e avevamo qualche problema a decidere per la strada da fare. Il culmine della situazione è stato quando qualcuno ha detto: " Mi spiace, ho seguito la macchina sbagliata." Un generoso amico del coordinatore locale della WHR ha preparato la cena per noi nel suo giardino. Quando abbiamo finito di mangiare una piccola corona di persone si è riunita intorno al nostro computer per guardare il video della WHR, e vedere le nostre fotografie della giornata. Erana deliziati dall'intrattenimento improvvisato.

Our day had begun at a primary school in Padova, where the children sang the World Harmony Run song as we entered the playground. When asked who would like to join the team all the way to Sicily, there was a chorus of “Mia! Mio!” that lasted a full five minutes!

La nostra giornata è iniziata in una scuola elementare a Padova, dove i bambini hanno cantato il canto della WHR mentre noi entravamo nel cortile. Quando abbiamo chiesto chi avrebbe voluto unirsi al team per tutto il percorso fino in Sicilia, c' èstato un coro di "MIa!Mio!" che è terminato dopo 5 minuti pieni!

The route to Bologna took us through the towns of Anguillara and Ferrara, through the flat countryside south of Padova, and past rows and rows of Poplar trees, across the vast expanse of the Po Plain.

La strada per Bologna ci ha portato attraverso le città di Anguillara e Ferrara, attraverso gli appartamenti della campagna del sud di Padova, passando filair e filari di alberi di pioppo, attraverso la vasta distesa della pianura del Po.

We were accompanied for much of the day by local running clubs, which was always great fun. The runners were all enthusiastic and happy to be part of the World Harmony Run team, and were also very talkative! They would often shout out to friends or strangers, who would shout back whilst riding by on a scooter.

Siamo stati accompagnati per la maggior parte del giorno dal club di corsa locale, che è stato sempre molto divertente. I corridori erano tutti entusiasti e felici di essere parte del team della WHR, ed erano anche dei gran chiaccheroni! Spesso urlavano qualcosa ai loro amici o stranieri, chi ricambiava urlando mentre stava guidando lo scooter.

Our first official meeting of the day was with the Mayor of Anguillara, who met us in the Main Square of the town with a large group of schoolchildren. The children sang a beautiful song about the importance of love in the world.

Il nostro primo incontro ufficiale della giornata è stato con il sindaco di Aunguillara, che abbiamo incontrato nella piazza principale della città con un ampio gruppo di scolari. I bambini hanno cantato un bellissimo canto circa l'importanza dell'amore nel mondo.

They also sang the Italian national anthem and enjoyed running around their school at top speed with the torch. The Mayor also ran a few metres with us and presented us with a plaque on behalf of the town.

Hanno anche cantato l'inno nazionale italiano e si sono divertiti a correre intorno alla loro scuola alla massima velocità con la torcia. Il sindaco anche ha corso pochi metri con noi e si è presentato a noi con una placca per conto della città.

We ran on again to Ferrara, a beautiful medieval town surrounded by an old wall. A local running club took us on a route around the edge of the town, through the trees, until we reached the cobbled streets that took us to the centre.

Abbiamo corso ancora verso Ferrara, una bellissima città medioevale circondata da un vecchio muro. Un club di corsa locale ci ha protato su una strada che toccava i confini della città, attraverso gli alberi, finchè non abbiamo raggiunto le strade ciotolate che ci hanno portato al centro della città.

There, a representative of the Commune de Ferrara met us outside the Municipio and welcomed us to the town. We were each given a commemorative medallion of Ferrara. Soon we were off again as our schedule was tight; we had 150km to cover that day.

Qui, abbiamo incontrato un rappresentante del comune di Ferrara fuori dal municipio che ci ha dato il benvenuto nella città. Ad ognuno è stata data una medaglia commemorativa di Ferrara. presto siamo andati via perchè il nostro programma era davvero intenso; dovevamo coprire 150 km quel giorno.

More running clubs accompanied us beyond Ferrara to San Giovanni where we had a very quick meeting with the representative of the Commune who was in charge of sport in the region. He was very positive and interested in what we were doing.

Molti club di corsa ci hanno accompagnato oltre Ferrara fino a S.Giovanni dove abbiamo avuto un incontro davvero veloce con il rappresentante del comune che si occupava dello sport nella regione. E' stato davvero positivo ed interessato a cosa stavamo facendo.

It felt like a very long day by the time we reached the outskirts of Bologna. We had all done a lot of running and enjoyed the many and varied experiences the day had had to offer!

E' sembrata davvero una lunga giornata quando abbiamo raggiunto la periferia di Bologna. Tutti abbiamo corso molto e gioito le molte e varie esperienze che il giorno ci ha offerto!
