Iceland 10 July: Höfn - Fáskrúðsfjörður

Our circumnavigation of Iceland has taken us to the Eastern Glacial region where the population is sparse and the scenery is magical.

Hringferðin um Ísland hefur núna leitt okkur um Austfirðina þar sem dreiftbýlt er en mögnuð náttúrufegurð.

We began the day in Höfn, where our host gave us a wonderful place to sleep.

Við byrjuðum daginn á Höfn. Þar sem við fengum frábæra gistingu í gegnum Huldu laxdal sem heldur hér á kyndlinum.

Our first meeting was 120 kilometers away so we had a lot of running to cover...

Okkar fyrsti fundur var 120km fjarlægð. Þannig, það var nóg um hlaup!

...luckily we were surrounded by a gorgeous coast and towering mountains.

en útsýnið spillti ekki fyrir, heldur hjálpaði mikið!

The buildings in Iceland are generally simple, yet very functional for keeping it's occupants warm.

Byggingar á Íslandi eru almennt einfaldar út á landi, en halda vel hita.

Along the route we met a family from Greenland taking a roadtrip.

Á Austfjörðum hittum við þennan dreng frá Grænlandi sem var á ferð með foreldrum sínum.

The road was lonely at times...

Stundum er einmanalegt á vegum úti.

...and the wind was chilling...

... í köldum vindi.

...and sometimes we scared other runners!

... og stundum tókst okkur að hræða aðra hlaupara!

...but just looking around at the changing landscape made it a beautiful day.

Að horfa á landslagið breytast í sífellu auðveldaði okkur hlaup dagsins.

At last in Stöðvarfjörður, some local kids and the owners of a cafe met with us.

Loksins, loksins, á Stöðvarfirði, þar sem við hittum krakka ásamt eigendum kaffihússins.

They were an enthusiastic bunch and we really enjoyed meeting them.

Krakkarnir voru mjög áhugasöm um hlaupið.

One of our runners has been getting a bit too relaxed...
Einn af hlaupurunum er farinn að slaka heldur betur á!

We had a new best friend for awhile, who joined us running.

Við eignnuðustum nýjan hlaupafélaga.

At a certain point the wind was trying to blow us in the opposite direction...

Það fór heldur betur að hvessa á köflum.

Stopping for an afternoon picnic...
Ærnar stoppa til að fá sér nesti.

We ran into Fáskrúðsfjörður, ready for action!

Við enduðum daginn á Fáskrúðsfirði.

Dagný Örnólfsdóttir who works at the Sport's Complex wrangled up some of the kids from the village for us to meet with.

Dagný Örnólsdóttir safnaði saman nokkrum krökkum á Faskrúðsfirði sem hittu okkur.

Here is one of the hometown heroes from Fáskrúðsfjörður.

Hér að ofan sést ein af hetjum Fáskrúðsfjarðar.

Good night for now, it's actually pretty late, although one can't tell because it's light until midnight or later!

Góða nótt. Það er orðið ansi seint að kveldi komið, þó það sé erfitt að segja vegna birtunnar.

The World Harmony Run proudly supports the International Year of Youth (IYY) and the International Year of Forests (IYF) proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly.

See the recent Youtube video on African experience which illustrates IYY slogan "Our Year Our Voice"  International Year of Youth - Zambia World Harmony. They surprisingly mention Presidents and UN Secretary-General in a unique way!
