Iceland 7 July: Sandgerði - Selfoss
We left Sandgerði early in the morning and were met by fog, brought about by the cold air from the ocean meeting the warm air on the road.
Við lögðum af stað frá Sandgerði snemma um morguninn og hlupum í þoku, en kalt loft af hafinu mætti hlýju lofti á veginum.
Continuing on, we saw swarms of arctic tern. Their nesting grounds were on either side of the road. These terns seemed to understand the meaning of harmony and left us be, for otherwise they can be quite aggressive.
Þvínæst hlupum við í gegnum sæg af kríu. Það er kríuvarpland sitt hvoru megin vegarins. Þessar kríur virtust þó skilja tilgang Friðarhlaupsins og létu okkur í friði.
In Grindavík the local sports club greeted us with high fives.
Í Grindavík tóku krakkar úr íþróttafélaginu á móti okkur og gáfu okkur fimm.
The kids were eager to run and didn't seem to want to stop.
Krakkarnir höfðu svo gaman af því að hlaupa að þau virtust aldrei vilja hætta.
Thank you very much Grindavík sports club.
Kærar þakkir fyrir þátttökuna Grindavík. Ægir þjálfari tók við viðurkenningu fyrir hönd allra.
Wildflowers grow in abundance around the lava fields.
Villt blóm vaxa á víð og dreif í hrauninu.
Pranava tries the ancient Icelandic method of massaging against a lava rock.
Pranava virðist vera að fá nudd frá hrauninu.
In Hveragerði, kids from the kids summerjob program escorted us...
Þegar við komum til Hveragerðis hlupu krakkar úr vinnuskólanum með okkur...
...to the town park.
...í lystigarðinn.
Grahak seems to be a blind kangaroo.
Er Grahak blind kengúra?
Thank you Hveragerði!
Takk fyrir Hveragerði!
Hveragerði takes its name from "hver", which means hot spring, and sure enough, hot springs are in abundance in this town.
Hveragerði stendur undir nafni og hér finnast hverir allsstaðar.
Our next town was Selfoss. First we watched a soccer game between talented girls from the local team versus team Afturelding.
Á Selfossi sáum við fótboltaleik milli stúlkna úr bænum og stúlkna úr Aftureldingu.
At half-time, all the girls from both teams took time out for harmony.
Í hálfleik söfnuðust stúlkurnar saman í friðarstund.
Tonight we get to spend at a fun place: kindergarten Krakkaborg. Thank you very much for having us. The caretaker of the house, Haukur, came to let us in.
Kærar þakkir leikskólinn Krakkaborg fyrir að veita okkur gistingu í nótt. Það var Haukur sem kom og hleypti okkur inn og senti sínar góðu óskir í kyndilinn.
The World Harmony Run proudly supports the International Year of Youth (IYY) and the International Year of Forests (IYF) proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly.
See the recent Youtube video on African experience which illustrates IYY slogan "Our Year Our Voice" International Year of Youth - Zambia World Harmony. They surprisingly mention Presidents and UN Secretary-General in a unique way!
