Iceland 10 July: Möðrudalur - Reykjarhlíð

The Möðrudalsöræfi barren lands greeted us today with all its awesome wealth and beauty of nature. One can say that running in the highland desolation is the other side of the coin of why we run in the World Harmony Run at all.

As Ganagane has already reflected, it is easy to see the purpose in handing the Harmony Torch, with all the inspiration and deep meaning already imbued in it, to those of inspiration and enthusiasm for global friendship and harmony.

Running in the barren lands is of a somewhat different nature (no pun intended). Here we are not joined by seemingly unstoppable children and youngsters, but are instead watched over by the ancient and wise mountains, Herðubreið and Katla, whence they stand and participate with their presence alone. None should mock their participation!

By their sheer presence, the mountains and the fiords, the rivers and the waterfalls - indeed all of nature - share with us runners some of their infinite stillness, infinite beauty and infinite purity.

For us, the Harmony Runners, who seek inspiration wherever it may be found, it is impossible not to be moved by these steady running partners. Incidentally, this fact has already been pointed out by Frank, proving once again the ancient Icelandic saying: "Keen is the visitor's eye."

After completing our run through the barren lands, our road took us to Mývatn Nature Baths, where we were to have a relaxing day later that night.

Our resting place was in Reykjarhlíð elementary school. All in all, a difficult but rewarding day.
