Singapore 1 January : Marina Bay
Celebrating New Year Day in a special way
While many kicked off this New Year Day with fireworks and parties, an energetic running group preferred to usher in this auspicious new year with the World Harmony Run. And so they came, all 27 runners and 1 cyclist, ready for action, smiles and joyous proclaimations.
Is this for real?
harmony shoes, anyone?
Wow, it's not as hot as I thought, now's my turn to make a wish for the world.
Singapore! Here we come!
Along the way, we met some overseas visitors, workers and local residents who were enjoying a holiday. We gladly shared our joy with them. I realised that anywhere we go in the world, the Harmony torch always provide us with a good opening to bond with people. It's such a universal symbolic icon for hope and friendship. Almost everyone loves to hold it and feel it. It brings out the smile from their hearts and they can't wait to take a picture with it. It makes them feel special and privileged to be part of it. People can relate to harmony and peace immediately because it's also their heartfelt desire and hope for the world.
Sri Chinmoy once said: " I strongly feel that the world has a sincere hunger for peace...in the very depth of our hearts, we long for peace."
At the Marina Bay, we met 2 ministers from India, His Excellency Mr Erasu Prathp Reddy and His Excellency Mr. T.G. Venkatesh, who were just enjoying an evening outing with some local associates. They delightedly joined us in hoisting the Harmony torch. We wished them and their country well for the coming new year.
Finally we made it, all hungry for food.
I liked to mention one special person who was very camera shy: Ming Tian was the cyclist who undauntedly helped us to carry fuel and acted as sweeper. He was very patient with the slower runners from start to finish. 3 cheers to him.
My sincere gratitude also goes to co-host Marcus and his friends, Cindy Loo, Ngatimin Wongso, Kim Ping, Joycelyn and Aileen, who helped to make this event a success.
Amongst the partcipants today were Aileen Wong, Ngatimin Wongso, Seah Kim Ping (helper), Joycelyn Chew (helper), Ivan Lau, JJ Mak, Goh Lai Yin, Jacqueline Foo, Cindy Low, Marcus (co-host), Esther Tay, Lilian, Cindy Loo (photographer), Noelle Ong, Sharon Teo, Tan Kok San, Florence Lim, AC Leong. Kevin Au Yong, Puay Kiang Lau, Tan Pheng Hwee, RuntoFit Lim, Lim Lay Tze,Teng Lew, Ming Tian (cyclist) and others.
God bless you all.
- Total distance : approx. 15km

By the way, no. 27 happened to be one of the favorite numbers of Sri Chinmoy, the founder of World Harmony Run because he was borned on 27 August 1931
