Our first meeting was with the "Amatori di Bertalda" Running Club... the team's president, Rocco Petrocelli accompanied us with his old Fiat 500 until evening, far from his town, Bertalda!

Il primo appuntamento è stato con il club podistico "Amatori di Bertalda"... il presidente della squadra, Rocco Petrocelli, ci ha accompagnato con la sua mitica 500 fino a sera, ben oltre Bertalda!

We are so delighted to meet new friends on the road every day! We ran together for about 12 km, to their town. A Regional Counselor, Mr. Nicola Benedetto, also came all the way with us.

E' un esperienza meravigliosa incontrare ogni giorno nuovi amici lungo la strada! Abbiamo corso insieme circa 12 km fino al loro paese, con anche un consigliere regionale, il signor Nicola Benedetto.

...as we crossed the city everyone was happily cheering us and many even gave us water!

The local runners were so happy to run with the torch that they wouldn't stop! We went all around the town and ran three times along the main road across the cheering crowd!

I podisti locali erano così contenti di correre con la fiaccola che non volevano smettere! Abbiamo fatto il giro della città insieme passando ben tre volte per il Corso del Paese tra la gente che applaudiva!

The organizer of the ceremony in Bertalda, Rocco Petrocelli, is an avid runner and the organizer of a well-known race called "Running Magna Grecia". Rocco started his running career when he was 50 and has completed a good 78 marathons up to now! Best time 3:17:58...

Rocco Petrocelli, l'organizzatore della cerimonia a Bertalda, è un podista super entusiasta ed anche l'ideatore della corsa "Running Magna Grecia". Pur avendo cominciato a correre solo a 50 anni ha all'attivo ben 78 maratone fin ora! Miglior tempo 3:17:58...

...and the certificate that the City of Bertalda gave to all the runners, in appreciation of the WHR's promotion of the values of sport and friendship among people. It is signed by the Mayor and the Sport Representative, Gianbattista Mazzei, who also had very kind words for us; thanks from our hearts!

...e il certificato, che il Comune ha donato a tutti i corridori, di apprezzamento alla WHR e al suo intento di promuovere i valori dello sport e dell'amicizia. E' firmato dal Sindaco e dall'Assessore allo Sport, Gianbattista Mazzei, che ha speso delle bellissime parole per la WHR, grazie di cuore!

The police escorted us almost all day, even when we were deep in the countryside, far from any city!

La polizia ci ha accompagnato praticamente tutto il giorno, anche in piena campagna!

Our coordinator Sandra carried the torch for the first time! We are very grateful to her for organizing the part from Bernalda to Matera.

La nostra coordinatrice Sandra ha portato la fiaccola per la prima volta! La ringraziamo per aver organizzato la tappa da Bernalda a Matera.

...we even had some roads which are usually closed to regular traffic,  opened especially for us...

La nostra scorta ci ha aiutato a portare la fiaccola ed anche in molti altri modi!

The last metres of our day... our friend Rocco carried the torch for the last part until we reached the "Sassi of Matera", the oldest part of the town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

La conclusione della nostra tappa odierna. Il nostro amico Rocco ha portato la fiaccola nell'ultima parte fino ai Sassi di Matera, Patrimonio dell'Umanitaìà UNESCO.
