We arrived early at the main square in front of Catania's City Hall... so some of us enjoyed a nice espresso in one of the beautiful cafés...

Siamo arrivati in anticipo nella piazza davanti al Municipio di Catania... così alcuni di noi ne hanno approfittato per prendersi un delizioso espresso in uno degli eleganti caffé della piazza...

Mr. Antonio Scalia, the sport representative of Catania, was extremely kind and open-hearted; he took to the WHR immediately, and involved his colleagues from the city administration.

In the picture you also see our friend Leonardo Curcuruto, from the "National Union of the Sports Veteterans".

Il Dott. Antonio Scalia, Assessore allo Sport di Catania, che é stato estremamente gentile ed aperto, ha immediatamente apprezzato il messaggio della WHR e coinvolto i suoi colleghi dell'Amministrazione Comunale.

Nella foto, sulla destra, anche il nostro amico Leonardo Curcuruto, dell'Unione Nazionale Veterani dello Sport.

...we walked for the first few blocks from City Hall into the city, together with the Mayor of Catania and Mr. Michelangelo Granata, the Sport Representative and Secretary of Catania's Fidal (Italian Federation of Athletics), who also warmly supported the WHR...

...abbiamo percorso i primi isolati a partire dal Municipio insieme al Sindaco e all'Assessore allo Sport di Catania, insieme a Michelangelo Granata, il segretario della FIDAL di Catania, che ha calorosamente supportato la WHR...

...after the meeting with the Mayor and the Assessori we ran through the city and along the coast for about 10 km.

...dopo l'incontro con il Sindaco e gli Assessori abbiamo corso attraverso la città e poi lungo la costa per circa 10 km.

...We reached the Sheraton Hotel, just outside Catania. Sri Chinmoy, founder of the WHR, held a Peace Concert in 1992 in the very same room of the hotel in which we met the hotel representatives and sang the WHR song, just to continue a good tradition...

...abbiamo raggiunto lo Sheraton Hotel che si trova appena fuori Catania. Sri Chinmoy, il fondatore della World Harmony Run, tenne in questa stessa stanza un concerto per la pace nel 1992; qui abbiamo incontrato due dirigenti dell'albergo e abbiamo cantato la canzone della WHR, giusto per mantener vive le buone tradizioni....

We stopped in a little village for lunch...

Yes! Ice cream exists in Italy. Even if some people don't believe it...

...As we reached Siracusa, Mr. Ferdinando Messina, the "Assessore for the Historical Centre", received us and ran with us...

...quando abbiamo raggiunto Siracusa, l'Assessore al Centro Storico, il Dott. Ferdinando Messina, ci ha ricevuto ed ha corso con noi...

...he welcomed us at City Hall and presented us with two beautiful books about the history of Siracusa...

...ci ha dato il benvenuto nel Municipio e ci ha donato due bellissimi libri sulla storia di Siracusa...

...The old city surprised us with gorgeous architecture and incredible flair....

...La città vecchia ci ha sorpreso per la sua meravigliosa architettura e la sua raffinatezza stilistica...
