What an intense beginning of the day! ...we took the ferry at 8:40 from Messina to Villa San Giovanni and got a running start from the ferry, where we were greeted by some charming kids who accompanied us to their school... 

Che inizio di giornata intenso!... abbiamo preso il tragetto alle 8:40 da Messina a Villa San Giovanni e siamo partiti di corsa già da dentro il traghetto, al cui esterno ci aspettavano i bambini per accompagnarci alla loro scuola...

The children of "Scuola Primaria Giovanni 23°" school were very enthusiastic and easily guessed what countries we were from.

I bambini della Scuola Primaria Giovanni 23° erano veramente entusiasti e hanno indovinato facimente di quali paesi fossimo!

I sorrisi luminosi dei bambini ci danno un sacco di energia!

What a nice surprise! Many of the school children joined us for our next visit,  to "Comeniti" secondary school. it was great, thank you!

Che bella sorpresa! Molti bambini della scuola si sono uniti a noi per la nostra tappa seguente, la scuola secondaria "Comeniti", è stato fantastico, grazie mille!

After our presentation, we invited the students to run with us... and we ran out of the building into the street with all the kids from both schools!

Dopo aver introdotto la WHR agli studenti, li abbiamo invitati a correre con noi... e siamo usciti tutti insieme in strada con i ragazzi di entrambi gli istituti!

"Primo Circolo" school kids were such an energetic group! From this meeting, as from many other meetings, we were late leaving, simply because the hearts of the Italian children would not allow us to leave on time!

Il Primo Circolo di Palmi, era un gruppo pieno di energia! In questo come in altri incontri in Italia ci abbiamo fatto un po' tardi, semplicemente perchè il cuore dei bambininon ci permetteva di andarcene prima!

We all ran together in a very small courtyard, which was chaotic yet surprisingly fun.

Abbiamo corso tutti insieme in un piccolo cortile, forse un po' caotico ma veramente divertente!

...our second visit in Palmi, to "De Zerbi" school, was a very fun one, like a giant party!

...il nostro secondo appuntamento a Palmi, la scuola primaria De Zerbi, è stato una grande festa!

The City Representative for Sport welcomed us at the school and received the torch. He had some very kind words to say. It was a nice ceremony with some performances prepared by the children and we felt that they really embraced the ideal of peace and harmony.

L'Assessore allo Sport è venuto a riceverci alla scuola, ha tenuto la fiaccola in rappresentanza della città e ci ha accolto con delle bellissime parole. E' stata una bella cerimonia, con anche alcuni numeri preparati dai bambini. Abbiamo sentito come loro abbiano veramente accolto l'ideale della pace e dell'armonia.

...the school courtyard was not that big, plus it was filled with children. As we really wanted to run with them, we made a long line and slowly ran around the courtyard holding onto each other. It was a perfect solution and everybody had so much fun!

...il cortile della scuola non era molto grande e perdippiù era strapieno di bambini. Però noi volevamo veramente correre con loro, quindi abbiamo formato una lungo serpentone e abbiamo corso lentamente intorno al cortile. Ha funzionato perfettamente e ci siamo divertiti tutti moltissimo!

Runners from the Mileto Marathon Club met us as we passed through the town of Mileto and also joined us for the next meeting in Vibo Valentia. Many thanks to all of them and to their president, Salvatore Auddino, for supporting us in so many ways. We hope to run together in the future!

I corridori del Mileto Marathon Club si sono uniti a noi per attraversare la cittadina di Mileto e per l'incontro seguente, a Vibo Valentia. Grazie di cuore a tutti loro e al loro presidente, Salvatore Auddino, per averci supportato in mille modi, speriamo in futuro di correre ancora con loro!

These kids joined us at the city sport hall; they were full of laughs, so we had a great time running with them. They are also really good runners! Last year they won the Italian junior games!

Questi ragazzi si sono uniti a noi vicino al palazzetto dello sport con grande allegria, bello correre con voi, ragazzi! Sono anche ottimi corridori, l'anno scorso hanno vinto i giochi della gioventù italiani!

The runners took us through the crowded centre of Vibo Valentia.

I corridori ci hanno guidato attraverso le affollate strade del centro della città.

A special welcome in Vibo Valentia main square. We were treated to a great performance before our ceremony: a group of young majorettes performed for us on stage!

Un benvenuto speciale nella piazza centrale di Vibo Valentia... siamo stati accolti da un gruppo di majorette che si è esibito in nostro onore sul palco prima della nostra cerimonia!

We were met by the Mayor, the Sport Representative and many other members of the City Council, a great honour! We presented the Mayor with the torch and received some gifts from him on behalf of the City...

Ad accoglieci sul palco c'erano il Sindaco, l'Assessore dello Sport e quasi tutto il Consiglio Comunale al completo, un grande onore! Abbiamo consegnato la fiaccola al Sindaco che ci ha regalato un libro e il Gagliardetto della città...

The Mayor treated us very courteously and we wish to thank him for the support to the WHR.

Il Sindaco è stato molto disponibile con noi, volevamo ringraziarlo per il supporto alla WHR.

After the intense morning we were happy to be unusually free in the afternoon...
Nel pomeriggio eravamo inusualmente liberi e ci siamo potuti riposare...

We went to Pizzo, a nearby village, where they have what is possibly the best ice-cream in Italy.

Siamo andati a Pizzo, un paese lì vicino, dove si trova forse il gelato migliore d'Italia!

...This is "Black Truffle", ice-cream with chocolate syrup in the middle - doesn't get any better than this!

...ed ecco il gelato al tartufo nero, la specialità della casa, con un delizioso ripieno di cioccolato fondente, difficile trovare di meglio!

The Calabrian coastline is one of the most beautiful and charming in the world, a real pearl in the Mediterranean sea. This is a small beach near Cape Vaticano.

La linea costiera calabrese è una delle più belle ed affascinanti del mondo, una vera perla del Mediterraneo. Ecco una delle piccole spiagge nei dintorni di Capo Vaticano.

Crystal-clear blue water - you could see straight through to the bottom. This is a beach near Tropea, another of Calabria's treasures.

Una spiaggia vicino Tropea, un altro dei tesori della Calabria. L'acqua è cristallina e di un azzurro intenso.

All of us admiring the Panorama from Cape Vaticano together, enjoying the peace of this place and the fragrance of the wild plants. A truly healing place, we were deeply touched by this visit...this is real harmony.

Eccoci tutti insieme ad ammirare il panorama da Capo Vaticano, respirando la pace di questo luogo e la fragranza delle tante piante aromatiche. Un luogo rigenerante, che ci ha toccato il cuore... vera armonia.
