Japan 23 July: Fukaya - Agatsuma

We started from the Fukaya-city hall at 8 o’clock in the morning. We were afraid of the rain predicted for this day (no wonder in rainy season), but we did not see a single drop during the whole day and it was rather hot.

On the way Mrs. Matsumoto who ran also yesterday, joined us. She is a very good Marathon runner who was also trained by Mr. Koide, the coach of the past Japanese women Marathon record-holder.

Jarmila from Czech Republic with her brother Karel who studies in Kanazawa joined at Jimbohara station.

At Maebashi city hall a very nice newspaper reporter was awaiting us. We called him just an hour before.

As we ran further through villages and fresh green rice fields, we came to a convenience store in Shibukawa, where four children from Mr. Nagumo’s family were waiting to hold the Harmony Torch and run with it on the parking lot.

We continued running to Agatsuma town, which was busy with people because of the local festival. We found the town hall which was the goal for today.

Mr. Ito then tried hard to find some cheap or better free accommodation. The only option was a store room with concrete floor in a temple. The young chief monk had to take out his fancy motorbike.

We enjoyed a bath in a hot spring which was a gorgeous building on the hill. Japanese people love hot springs and many people also with children were relaxing there. We had dinner in a Japanese local restaurant which looked also a bit Chinese and had a fairy-tale atmosphere
