The WHR staff was then joined by three enthusiastic athletes who ran the distance of 20 km. One of them was Mr. Shirato, a famous Japanese triathlonist.

As we were running through the streets of the city, we met many people and several of them held the torch and made a wish for world harmony. There were also small children, some of them really very small!

The rest of the first day's route had to be run by the Japanese WHR organizing staff members. We ran past Saitama city-hall, Ageo city-hall to Konosu, Kumagaya and to Fukaya city-hall, where was the goal of the first day.
