13. Mike Ward

Mike is a well known personality in Nelson for his endeavours in many fields. He is a Justice of the Peace and served as a Nelson City Councillor for many years. Mike is a member of the Green Party and served as a Member of Parliament from 2002-2005.
Mike has also served on community bodies such as the Nelson Arts Council and is currently Chair of Nelson Community Organic Gardens Trust. Mike qualified in the field of fine arts and has worked as a visual artist since retiring from Head of the Art Department at Tokoroa High. He has illustrated manhole covers and bus logos and other publications, and achieved Supreme winner of the World of Wearable Art.
Mike is a keen sportsman and has taken part in all 25 Coast to Coast races, as well as a length of New Zealand race and a length of Scotland race. Mike is active in preserving the heritage of Nelson and the environment and has a keen interest in related issues. His contribution to the community is truly immeasurable.
