Caribbean 31 May - 1 June: St. Vincent and the Grenadines
We were delighted to meet with Hon. Prime Minister Ralph E Gonsalves who offered us extremely encouraging words support, along with a personal invitation to return next year. We were very grateful for the opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister.
We also had the honor of meeting Hon. Arnhim Eustace Leader of the opposition who gave a very inspiring speech supporting the World Harmony Run at the closing ceremony.
Yesterday we arrived on the beautiful island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We were welcomed at the airport by Mr. St. Clair Bramble Ag. Director of Sports, and Jacqui English Marketing Officer for the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. After checking in to our beautiful hotel, The Villa Lodge, we went to the Ministry of Tourism for a logistical meeting with everyone involved with the run.
After our meeting we went to Kye’s Vegetarian Restaurant and were treated by our friend Kye to a delicious meal of macaroni and cheese, beans and rice, and soy chunks with gravy. We had an incredible native drink called Mauby that was made primarily from the bark of a tree. It was so great that we went back for lunch today once again.
Villa Lodge is a beautiful, light, and spacious hotel that is very close to the ocean. Jean-Michelle, the owner, and Ton the General Manager, as well as the entire staff have been extremely kind and gracious to us, supplying us with two exquisite rooms for two nights. The hotel has a wonderful and cosy family feel to it and a delicious restaurant that overlooks the ocean. We are extremely grateful to them, and would definitely suggest this hotel to anyone wanting to have a wonderful vacation.
The event this morning was an incredible route that wound up and down the steep hills of St. Vincent for 9 miles. We ran with hundreds of children from 10 schools, and had a great ceremony half way through the route.
The Hon. Glen Beache Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports welcomed the run to St. Vincent.
Many prominent citizens of St. Vincent joined the run. Mrs. Gloria Ballantyne MBE 1st lady of Sport, and national netball captain joined with Mr. Earl “Old George” Daniel who is a legend in St. Vincent for walking for 7 days straight with no sleep in order to foster harmony on St. Vincent.
Mr. Pamenos Ballantyne Marathon Champion of St. Vincent and the Carribean ran the entire distance and was my (Jitavrata) inspiration for running the entire distance as well. He is a 2:15 marathoner, and that was in the heat of Trinidad. We were really grateful to have him out there.
We are extremely grateful to Ms. Laverne Grant, Permanent Secretary of Ministery of Tourism, Youth and Sports for arranging our visit.
After all our formal meetings we had an opportunity to take a boat ride with Fantasea Tours - here are some photos of that trip.
Thank you St. Vincent and the Grenadines!!
