Caribbean 24 May: Guyana

Planes, boats, automobiles and of course feet were the chosen mode of transport today. We started out in a six seater charter flight where Homagni had to sit in the co-pilots seat. We flew about 40 minutes to Charity and then proceeded to run back toward Georgetown.

Jitavrata shares a moment with one of the many well wishers we met along the roadway as we ran from Charity in the North of Guyana to Georgetown the capital.

We had lots of help relaying the torch over the 40 mile this group were with us for about 7 miles and they ran at a very good pace.

This young girls was a member of the Georgetown Netball team who accompanied us into town.

A well uniformed soccer team carried the torch over the floating bridge just outside Georgetown.

The hindu temple provided runners celebrating the multifaith aspect of the

world Harmony Run.

At one point we had cross Essequibo River. The transport of choice was a wooden speedboat and the weather was inclement (to say the least). We managed to stay dry taking shelter underneath vinyl blankets.

A local UNDP youth chapter joined us for a few miles.

Along the way we met with the regional chairman who joined us for a few miles.

The runners sang a lilting song for us about the beauty and nobility of the country and its people.

Running past one of the many rice paddies which provided the majority of the backdrop as we journeyed through the country today.
