Today we started at 10:00am with a meeting at the City Hall of La Línea de la Concepción. We were received by the Mayor and the Sports Chairman who it turned out is also a long distance runner. The local TV and newspaper covered the reception and we sang our World Harmony Run anthem for them.

Hoy hemos comenzado la jornada con una recepción en el Ayuntamiento de La Línea de la Concepción. Hemos sido recibidos por el Alcalde y el Delegado de Deportes quien resultó ser también corredor de larga distancia. La Tv y la prensa local cubrieron el acto y cantamos para ellos la canción de World Harmony Run.

Next we ran towards Gibraltar, a British territory between the two continents of Europe and Africa.

Seguidamente comenzamos a correr hacia Gibraltar, un territorio británico entre los continentes de Europa y Africa.

This impressive rock sits on a narrow cape with a strong development and over 13.000 inhabitants who speak both Spanish and English (often at the same time).

Esta impresionante roca asentada sobre un estrecho cabo tiene un fuerte desarrollo y más de 13.000 habitantes que hablan tanto inglés como español (a veces al mismo tiempo).

We were received at the border by some friendly bobbies and Lionel Gomez, Education Advisor from the Department of Education and training. It was the first time in the history of the run, a far as we know, that we have ever run across the runway of an airport.

Entrenamiento. Ha sido la primera vez en la historia de la Carrera, a saber, que hemos corrido a través de una pista de aterrizaje de un aeropuerto.

We then visited St. Anne´s Middle School, our first meeting in English since we started this year run.

A continuación visitamos el Colegio de enseñanza media St. Anne, nuestro primer encuentro en inglés desde el comienzo de la Carrera de este año.

We shared our experiences of running through the Spanish hills with the kids and made them members of our ever increasing team of harmony runners.

Compartimos con los niños nuestras experiencias de la carrera a través de las tierras españolas y les hicimos miembros de nuestro creciente equipo de relevistas por la Armonía.

Our next destination was Europe Point, an extremely windy place with a mosque and lighthouse.

Nuestro siguiente destino fue la Punta Europa, al final del cabo de Gibraltar, un lugar extremadamente ventoso donde se halla el faro y una gran mezquita.

It is the very end of Gibraltar facing Africa, but he weather seemed to be imported from the United Kingdom, although we were told repeatedly that it was an unusually cold and windy day.

Es el extremo de Gibraltar mirando a Africa, pero el clima parecía importado del Reino Unido, aunque nos informaron de que estos días estaban siendo inusualmente fríos.

We had no time to pass our torch to the famous colony of apes that live in the rocky cliffs above.

The country of Gibraltar is deceptively large as we continued winding our way towards the Governor’s Residence for our next meeting. The Governor, Lt. Gen. Sir Robert Fulton K.B.E was extremely friendly and eager to learn about the run and its impact around the world.

No tuvimos tiempo para pasar la Antorcha a la famosa colonia de monos que habita más arriba en el peñon.

Gibraltar es engañosamente largo a medida que continuamos la ondeante carretera hacia la Residencia del Gobernador para nuestro próximo mitin. El Gobernador, Teniente General Sir Robert Fulton estuvo sumamente amistoso y deseoso de conocer acerca de la Carrera y su impacto alrededor del mundo.

We discovered later that the Governor was a regular runner and extremely fit, although he was humble about his athletic capacity at the time.

Descubrimos más tarde que el Gobernador es un corredor habitual y en muy buena forma, aunque se mostró modesto acerca de su capacidad atlética.

Across the border and back to Spain we left Miroslav, our Czech runner, in Algeciras. He was an extraordinary team member and we were sorry to see him go but in his place we welcomed a new friend, Honza, also from Czech Republic.

dejamos a Miroslav, nuestro super corredor checo. Ha sido un miembro extraordinario del equipo y sentimos que nos dejara, pero en su puesto dimos la bienvenida poco después a Honza, también de la república Checa.

On the way down the mountain, the valley was covered in wind generators as far as we could see. Enrico, our smallest and lightest runner, was almost blown away.

Siguiendo montaña abajo, los valles se volvieron cubiertos de molinos de energía eólica hasta donde alcanzaba la vista. Enrico, nuestro corredor más pequeño y ligero, de Italia, no tuvo que esforzarse mucho, pues bajo casi volando.

Finally we arrived in Tarifa the southern most point of Spain.

A representative from the city, Juan Luis Hidalgo, welcomed us to the town and gave us a brief history of this fascinating place.

Por fin llegamos a Tarifa, el punto más al sur de España. Una histórica y hermosa ciudad amurallada a través de la cual entraron y salieron los árabes en España. Un representante de la ciudad, Juan Luis Hidalgo, del Instituto Municipal de Deportes, nos dio la bienvenida a la ciudad y una interesante charla sobre la historia de Tarifa.

Tarifa is a very significant city for many reasons. It was the entry point for the Moroccan occupation of Spain that lasted for over 800 years and also the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The city is a perfect example of Arab-Andalusí culture and today also a well known meeting point for surfers. Juan also explained that many swimmers have crossed the 11 km of the Gibraltar Straight, the fastest time being 3 ½ hours.

Tarifa es muy significativa por muchas razones. Fue la puerta de entrada y salida para los Moros que ocuparon España por más de 800 años, y también el punto de encuentro entre el Océano Atlántico y el Mar Mediterráneo. La ciudad es un ejemplo de lña cultura árabe-andalusí y hoy día un famoso destino para surfistas. Juan nos explicó también que muchos nadadores vienen a cruzar el Estrecho de 11 km, el más rápido en 3 horas y media.

Tonight we are staying at a Military Residence kindly provided by the City Hall. The lights of Morocco are beckoning us, as we look out our window.

Queremos agradecer especialmente al Ayuntamiento de Tarifa por su generoso apoyo y colaboración acogiendo a la Carrera por la Armonía y

ofreciédonos alojamiento y cena en una magnífica Residencia. Mirando por la ventana, las luces de Marruecos nos hacen señales.
