Spain 12 March: El Rocío – Sevilla

We woke up in a dream western-like town of El Rocío, and took off for our first meeting in the nearby city.

We were running fast to Almonte in the fresh morning air, but still thinking of the nice place where we spent the night.

The Mayor of Almonte who provided us with an accommodation last night received us at the city hall. Here we experienced one of the nicest receptions so far.

They were very kind and warm-hearted and we shared some good feelings and ideas. They were happy to add their “grain of sand” to the whole project.

Everybody around in the square wanted to know about the run and was happy to hold the torch.

Mirek made a friend with a local citizen, but he did not convince him to run with our team.

Our route continued to a landscape full of pine trees and higo chumbo cactuses.

After good and fast running we arrived to beautiful and famous Sevilla.

First we passed by the Expo 93 Exhibition area and local police escorted us through the city. Many people were cheering us on the way. We also ran through one of the original old entrances to the city called Puerta de la Macarena.

And finally we ended at the city hall, where the delegate of sports received us and was especially happy to hear our song performance in the excellent acoustics of the city hall.

At the main square, we met with many people who were excited to know about the run.

In the evening we were very grateful to the University of Sevilla for providing us with an accommodation and dinner in a nice student college.

That’s all for today and don’t miss our next report :-)
