Iceland 23 July: Reykjahlíð - Opposite from the port of Akureyri

Today the World Harmony Runners were on their own, unless you count the myriad birds who flocked around us. The roughly 90 km or so that we had to run today were not much of a problem, as the weather was bright, warm and still.

Our route took us from Reykjahlíð village and out of the boundaries of Lake Mývatn. The boys began the running, while the girls took a little scenic tour and visited, among other places, Goðafoss waterfall.

We met a few travellers who offered to run with us for a short while, and were all their offers graciously accepted. It is always so spontaneous and beautiful when travellers see us running, stop their car and ask to join. This is truly an act of the heart.

We ended at Akureyri town today - actually on the coast on the other side of Eyjafjörður fiord, for this is where Viktoría will swim across the fiord to Akureyri tomorrow. Nonetheless, as three runners were heading back to Reykjavík, Andrés, Davíð and Víðir, we pre-visited Akureyri and had a little ice-cream farewell party.

Instead of these Three Muskateers, we will get Ágúst, Brynjar and Upajukta tomorrow.

Distance: 94km
