Spain 12 March: Lorca - Elche

Today the weather was wonderfully warm. As we entered into the community of Murcia there were abundant orange and lemon trees stretching from the distant hills all the way down to the roadside.

At noon we were received in the City Hall of Murcia and the torch was held by the Delegate of Sports. He presented us with a beautiful plaque commemorating the World Harmony Run arrival. Local media came to take pictures.

Earlier in the morning the city celebrated a half marathon race and some runners came to speak with us about the World Harmony Run with their families and children.

We continued on our way to Elche and decided to advance some of tomorrow’s mileage, so we ran ahead a few more kilometers.

We have to express special gratitude to the local police in Elche who guided us through the city. Later they brought us for dinner in the police van and afterwards they took us back to the hotel. Also many thanks to the City Hall of Elche for taking such good care of us.

Today our portugese runner Patricio climbed a lemon tree and got the inspiration to write the following poem:

No rain in Spain

No run for fun

Don´t listen to the pain

Keep going under the sun

Today the run for harmony

Will reach another city

Mile after mile

We will make people smile

Inspired by God´s game

We carry a blessing flame

Passing it hand to hand

Throughout Iberian land.

Distance: 153km
