It is an auspicious and eventful day for the Harmony Torch. The pink pastels of the early dawn washed over the majesty of the st. Barbora and st. James churches.

Pro pochodeň hamonie je to velmi zdárný a památný den. Růžová pastelová barva časného svítání pokrývá majestátní chrám sv. Barbory a kostel sv. Jakuba.

The main chapel of st. Barbora supported by tall arching flying buttresses and topped with ornate spires, this church is an impressive sight. Inside we follow early Sunday mass, which ends with the magnanimous priest in silence ceremoniously lighting the torch with an altar candle. The resulting flame is tall and noble.

Hlavní kapli sv. Barbory podpírají mohutné klenoucí se pilíře, jejichž vrchol zdobí ornamenty. Tento chrám působí opravdu úchvatně. Připojujeme se k nedělní ranní bohoslužbě, ns jejímž závěru kněz v tichosti a slavnostně zapálí pochodeň svíčkou z oltáře. Vznikne nádherný plamen stoupající opravdu vysoko.

With this flame we go on to have a Harmony class with some children. It is admirable that they have gone out of their way to come to school especially for us on this early Sunday morning. Also attending the class are around 30 members of our Czech team. We show them a World Harmony Run video and let them ask questions. Then we run together out of town.

S tímto plamenem pak pokračujeme do místní školy. Je obdivuhodné, že děti přišli do školy tohoto časného nedělního rána čistě kvůli nám. Ukazujeme dětem video o Běhu Harmonie a necháváme je dát nám pár otázek. Potom běžíme společně ven z města.

At Caslav stadium we meet the esteemed athlete Jarmila Kratochvilova, who still after 30 years holds the World Record for womens 800 metres.

Na stadionu v Čáslavi se setkáváme s váženou atletkou Jarmilou Kratochvílovou, která stále po 30 letech drží ženský světový rekord v běhu na 800 metrů.

A big brass band plays as we run around the track with young gymnasts. As the band plays the young musicians pass the torch from hand to hand, resulting in many a surprised look and smile. The talented and agile gymnasts then perform aerobics for us.

Velká dechová kapela hraje, když běžíme kolem stadionu s mladými gymnasty. Zatímco kapela hraje, mladí hudebníci si podáváme pochodeň z ruky do ruky. Mnozí se tváří překvapeně a usmívají se. Potom pro nás talentovaní a pružní gymnasti předvádějí svoje vystoupení.

In Zleby we meet the good mayor in the courtyard of the town’s Tudor style castle. A fearsome bull hangs above a great arch at the entrance of the castle. Above us the mouths of metal dragons form the exits of gutters. After a short presentation we are invited for apples and hot tea, which is very welcome as it’s quite chilly.

Ve Žlebech jsme se setkali s velmi laskavým panem starostou na nádvoří zámku. U vchodu do zámku visí nad mohutným obloukem býk nahánějící hrůzu, také je tam k vidění vícehlavý drak. Po krátké prezentaci jsme byli pozváni na ovoce a teplý čaj, což se velmi hodilo, protože dnes bylo celkem chladno.

Part of the international team are lucky enough to have time to sight-see some grey-stone castle ruins on the top of a hill. The unfolding 380 degree panorama from the top is breathtaking. Long gone the days of blood and battle the ruins are now drenched in a cool windswept stillness where potent peace prevails.

Část mezinárodního týmu měla štěstí a trochu času prohlédnout si zříceninu hradu na kopci, z něhož se nám otevřel naprosto úchvatný rozhled. Už je dávno pryč doba krveprolití a bitev a dnes je tu vše tiché a míruplné.

A vigorous and affable young mayor greets us in Havlickuv Brod. The weather is still chilly and dabbled with light rain. The mayor jokes that they would have ordered sunshine, but they realised that cool weather is much better for running, plus they didn’t want to afflict us with sunburn. On being handed a certificate of participation he good-humouredly says that at the next council meeting of the region when things get a bit hot tempered, he will hold up the certificate to remind everyone that what we’re all aiming for is Harmony. He then sets the pace for us for quite a few hundred metres out of the city, his fellow citizens cheering on.

Energický a přátelský mladý starosta nás vítá v Havlíčkově Brodě. Počasí je stále chladné s mírným deštěm. Pan starosta žertuje, že by objednali sluníčko, ale pak si uvědomili, že chladnější počasí je pro běh mnohem příjemnější a že nás nechtěli potrápit úpalem nebo něčím podobným. Když od nás dostal certifikát za účast, žertem prohodil, že pokud na dalších krajských zasedáních zhoustne atmosféra, vytáhne certifikát a všem připomene, že to, kam všichni směřujeme, je Harmonie. Potom běží v čele skupiny několik stovek metrů směrem ven z města, povzbuzován svými spoluobčany.

Indeed, the people of Czech are really awake. Just about everyone we meet encourages us along the way, clapping, cheering, smiling and just looking friendly. Our Czech runners are such an inspiration.

Lidé v Čechách jsou opravdu vnímaví. Skoro každý, koho jsme na cestě potkali, nás povzbuzoval, tleskal, usmíval se a tvářil se přátelsky. Naši čeští běžci jsou opravdovou inspirací.

We are 20 to 50 keen runners on the road at a time. Friendly “AHOY”s often ring out aloud as we meet people in towns and cities, and on desolate roads.

Je nás na trati vždy 20 až 50 nadšených běžců současně. Přátelské AHOJ se často ozývá, když potkáváme lidi na vesnicích, ve městech a odlehlých silnicích.

Amongst autumnal scenery we are kindly greeted by a jolly troop of people in Pohled. Many families have come with young children. We gather a bunch of them and scurry through a park towards the next city, Pribyslav.

 

Uprostřed podzimní krajiny nás v Pohledu zdraví skupina veselých lidí. Přišlo mnoho rodin s malými dětmi. Přibíráme část z nich a utíkáme parkem dál směrem k dalšímu městu, Přibyslavi.

 

TV cameras record our journey into town and our meeting with the good-spirited mayor. Here we find adorable little photogenic children who excitedly run with us out of town. A little child in green clasps a Harmony flag tightly with both hands as she scuttles along the street, aiming for the head of the group. She really has to make an effort to do this, because she is so little. But every time she falls back she gathers new energy and dashes ahead.

Televizní kamery zachycují naši cestu do města a naše setkání se starostou. Nalézáme zde roztomilé malé děti, které s námi vzrušeně vybíhají z města. Malá holčička v zeleném drží WHR vlajku pevně oběma rukama a cupitá si to po ulici směrem do čela skupiny. Musí se opravdu snažit, protože je velmi malá. Ale pokaždé, když ji ostatní předběhnou, sebere další sílu a úprkem běží vpřed.

This busy day had a very special culmination. Into Zdar nad Sazavou we were about 50 merry runners. A man was waiting for us on the roadside, eager to run the last kilometres with us and hold the torch. He had competed in the Master’s games in 2002 and today was actually his 65th birthday, so while running we all sang Happy Birthday to him.

Tento rušný den měl velmi speciální vyvrcholení. Do Žďáru nad Sázavou nás bylo asi 50 čilých běžců. Na kraji silnice na nás čekal jeden pán, horlivý běžet s námi posledních pár kilometrů a držet pochodeň. V roce 2002 se zúčastnil Master´s Games a zrovna dnes měl 65. narozeniny, takže při běhu jsme mu zpívali píseň Happy Birthday.

Dusk was quickly turning into night and as we reached the town hall it was already dark. We were surprised and delighted to have the gracious audience with 4 dignitaries: the Minister of Agriculture, a member of Parliament, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. In addition there were many other officials and representatives there and some of our hosts took a lap with us around the square. An extraordinary feeling of oneness and joy suffused the air. Everyone was in such high spirits and it felt as if we had just come to a family gathering.

Soumrak se rychle měnil v noc a když jsme dorazili k radnici, byla už tma. Velmi nás potěšila audience čtyř významných osobností: ministra zemědělství, jednoho z poslanců, starosty a místostarosty. Zároveň se dostavilo mnoho dalších osobností veřejného života a někteří s námi oběhli náměstí. Ve vzduchu byla cítit jednota a radost. Každý byl v krásném vědomí a nám připadalo, jako kdybychom přišli na nějaké rodinné setkání.

Today was also one of our Czech girl’s birthday and she offered cakes to everyone under the starlit sky. Everyone was happy and content.

Dnes také jedna z českých dívek-běžkyň měla narozeniny a pod hvězdnou oblohou každému nabídla koláč. Všichni byli velmi šťastní.
