The sun rose this morning onto a glorious autumnal day that was refreshing and beautiful in all its crisp glory. The sky was so blue as the international team left its hotel adjacent to the old football stadium to join up with the Czech runners who had started running earlier from the suburbs of Prague.

Dnes ráno vyšlo Slunce do nádherného podzimního dne. Když mezinárodní tým opouštěl svůj hotel poblíž starého fotbalového stadionu, aby se přidal k českým běžcům, kteří již vystartovali na okraji Prahy, byla blankytně modrá obloha.

We drove through countryside of expansive fields that had been recently freshly ploughed to join the large contingent of Czech runners. We briefly stopped at a small rural village called Velden to cheer on the joyful Czech runners running through the tranquil and serene village. Suddenly through the public address loudspeakers Czech rock music blared out to accompany the rather bemused group of runners.

Jeli jsme krajinou rozlehlých polí, které byly právě nedávno čerstvě zorány, abychom se připojili k početné skupině českých běžců, kteří vyběhli z předměstí Prahy již časně ráno. Krátce jsme se zastavili v malé vesnici Velden, abychom je povzbudili při jejich běhu touto poklidnou vesničkou. Najednou se z místního rozhlasu ozvala česká rocková hudba na doprovod naší poněkud zaskočené běžecké skupiny.

The international team joined the 40 or more Czech runners amassed outside Stara Boleslav where a police car escorted us to the town square where we were enthusiastically welcomed by the mayor.

Celý mezinárodní tým se ke čtyřiceti (možná více) českým běžcům připojil u Staré Boleslavi. Policejní doprovod nás dovedl na náměstí a tam nás velmi nadšeně přijal starosta města.

Wasting no time we ran with three boys from the local athletic club where we ran to Stara Boleslav Athletic Stadium Houstka. This stadium ringed by tall trees is where the legendary Czech middle distance runner Emil Zatopek broke astonishing 28 world records, and today a memorial statue stands to commemorate his life and achievements.The athletic coach led us into the small museum where the town honours some of the great Czech athletes from the past. The three boys from the club led us all around the running track twice as we briskly ran with energy and a power that can only come from running on such a famous track.

Hned poté, abychom nemarnili čas, běželi jsme se třemi chlapci z místního atletického klubu na atletický stadion Houšťka. Je to stadion obklopený vysokými stromy, kde legendární Emil Zátopek dosáhl neuvěřitelných 28 světových rekordů. Dnes se zde nachází památník oslavující jeho život a dosažení. Trenér atletického klubu nás vzal do malého muzea, kde město vzdává hold některým velkým českým atletům minulosti. Tři chlapci z klubu nás všechny vedli kolem slavného oválu, který jsme oběhli dvakrát s energií a nadšením, které může vzejít jen z běhu na tak slavné trati.

Then these same boys led us through some rough tracks and through a forest dappled in sunlight as we headed towards Lysa nad Labem. The boys set a fast pace, only to be increased by the cracking race pace set by the Czech girls.

Potom nás tito samí chlapci vedli lesem směrem na Lysou nad Labem. Udali rychlé tempo, které bylo ještě zrychleno zdrcujícím tempem českých dívek.

Our large convey of vehicles picked up exhausted and out of breath runners but only to be replaced by eager runners to run the stretch of 7km as we headed towards Lysa.

Naše velká skupina doprovodných aut vyzvedla vyčerpané běžce, kteří byli nahrazeni jinými běžci dychtivými uběhnout 7 km směrem k Lysé nad Labem.

At one point as we headed towards Lysa we had up to 30 runners all on the road running together. The group had such a fantastic energy and rhythm that it was effortless to run.

V jednom okamžiku nás bylo na trati dohromady celkem 30 běžců. Celá skupina měla tak výbornou energii a nadšení, že „to běželo samo.“

At Lysa nad Labem we were treated by the mayor to refreshments and a special World Harmony Run chocolate cake that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.Dipavajan got to the cake first to eat the chocolate and icing World Harmony Run cake decoration. It was probably the fastest he moved all day despite his injury to his back. The mayor was treated to a magnificent rendition of the World Harmony Run song sang by over 50 runners.

V Lysé nad Labem nás paní starostka pohostila občerstvením a speciálním čokoládovým dortem, o který jsme se všichni s radostí rozdělili. Dipavajan se k dortu dostal první a měl tak čokoládu i šlehačku. Byl to pravděpodobně dnes jeho nejrychlejší pohyb, i přes jeho zranění v zádech. Paní starostka pak byla odměněna velkolepým provedením naší písně v podání 50 nadšených běžců.

The run seems to throw up some unexpected events and experiences at times. One of these was when a group of us attended a wedding in Lysa at the request of the mayor. She was so proud and beamed with delight that a group of us could wish the happy couple peace and harmony and to give them the opportunity to hold the torch together. As the wedding guests arrived we were lined up to receive the bride and groom. We handed the bride and groom the torch and serenaded them the World Harmony Run song. It was quite a special and unexpected moment for us and the wedding guests.

Občas se na našem běhu stávají zcela neočekávané události. Jednou z nich bylo, když na požádání paní starostky navštívila skupina našich běžců právě probíhající svatbu. Když se objevili svatební hosté, udělali jsme pro ženicha s nevěstou čestnou uličku, podali jsme jim pochodeň a zazpívali naši píseň. Pro nás i pro svatební hosty to byl velmi speciální a neočekávaný zážitek.

From there we caught up with the others on their way to the 13th century town of Nymburk where the mayor and some children from the town's orphanage awaited to warmly welcome us.

Ostatní běžce jsme dostihli na cestě do starobylého města Nymburk. Čekal nás tam (a vřele nás přivítal)pan starosta a několik dětí z místního Dětského domova.

The runners split into two groups then. The first ran towards Podebrady 9 km away on a cycle path whilst the rest of us visited the orphanage where the children sang us some beautiful songs.

Pak se běžci rozdělili do dvou skupin. Jedna skupina běžela 9km po cyklostezce do Poděbrad a druhá skupina navštívila Dětský domov, kde nám děti zazpívaly krásné písně.

At Podebrady town hall we were welcomed by the local mayor, and once again we were given much needed refreshments. The local town choir sang four lovely songs on peace and love. They sang these songs in Hebrew, English, South African and Czech, and finally we all sang together our World Harmony Song.Everyone had such a wonderful smile on their faces.

Na radnici v Poděbradech nás přivítal pan starosta a dnes již poněkolikáté jsme dostali tak potřebné občerstvení. Pěvecký sbor Gymnázia Jiřího z Poděbrad zazpíval čtyři úchvatné písně o míru a lásce. Zpívali je v hebrejštině, angličtině, v africkém nářečí a v češtině. Nakonec jsme všichni dohromady zazpívali píseň World Harmony Run. Všichni se nádherně usmívali.

The sun was casting long shadows and the sky became scattered with clouds as we reached Kolin where we met some local children who ran with us with such freedom and joy.

Když jsme doběhli do Kolína, slunce vrhalo dlouhé stíny a na obloze se objevovaly mraky. Potkali jsme tam několik dětí, které s námi radostně běžely.

Our day was finally reaching and drawing to a close as we entered the picturesque town of Kutna Hora to check into our hotel. There, along with about 50 Czech runners, we enjoyed a well earned evening meal. After our meal we were treated to a guided tour of the town and it was a sight to see one of the most beautiful churches in the Czech Republic lit up in the clear star lit sky. It was one of those days that you didnt want to end but tiredness and the prospect of another joyous and harmonious day meant it was finally time for bed.

Dosažením malebného města Kutná Hora se náš den se pomalu završoval. Společně s 50 českými běžci jsme ocenili zaslouženou večeři. Pak jsme se však ještě vydali na prohlídku města a viděli jsme jeden z nejkrásnějších chrámů v Čechách osvětlený pod jasnou hvězdnatou oblohou. Byl to jeden ze dní, kdy nechcete, aby skončily, ale únava a vidina zítřejších událostí nás nakonec zahnaly do postele.
