Canada 23 September: Sault-Ste-Marie - Nipigon

Our very first meeting today was very inspiring. We took off from our hotel and ran to the ‘Oasis of Peace’, the foot of a gigantic Cross behind St. Basil’s Secondary School where a big group of student runners welcomed us.

They were from three different schools: Notre Dame des Grandes Lacs, St. Basil’s Secondary School and St. Mary’s College.

Councilor Susan Myers was also present

We are very grateful to Father Michel Williams, who was blessing the torch and running into St Mary’s College with us.

He was leading all the students at a remarkable pace.

The members of the Cross Country Teams were impressed by his fitness level.

Later on we ran into the auditorium of the St. Mary’s College where Stephane Thibodeau welcomed us. Our World Harmony Run DVD was presented to the students and we said a few words about the intention of the run.

Our Certificate of appreciation was given to councilor Susan Myers and the representatives of all 3 schools

including event coordinator Rose Marie Valade.

Afterwards we passed the torch

and ran to the Boardwalk with the members of the Cross-country team.

As we left, a prayer from Father Michael Williams was said.

At lunchtime we had a few minutes to relax.

Some of us enjoyed the view.

For lunch we had blueberry pie. It was excellent!!

Then we had meeting in Wa-wa at the Michipicoten High School.

We were welcomed by the principal who later ran one lap in the gym with the Mayor Howard Whent.

At the end, some of the students lead us running to the next school, Sir James Dunn Public School, where we met with the kids inside.

We took some pictures with the teachers

Later on we had to drive and drive and drive…

Here is a creative story from Sevati about our many hours of driving.

It’s become a nightmare we can’t escape! Pinned into the rear seat, the G force is stronger than us, we’ve entered into the twilight zone of Canada, if someone ever reads this please know our last moments were harmonious, alas we were not able to swim in the beauty that surrounded us…Phew…

We are saved at the last moment by some truckers! Our driver has had to slow down to a mere 40km – driving slower than ever, but wait the trucks are moving on!

Now at a mere 40K we come to realize that for the last 300 kilometers we were surrounded by amazing, no, sublime beauty! … another truck has overtaken us in the Maneuver… just now we see what we have been missing, lakes with mirror like surfaces, boulders on either side of us and as far as the eye can see, a tapestry of pine, maple and birch trees spread all around us till they reach the ocean shore and on the other side more lakes… possibly the longest stretch of natures-beauty thus far on our journey.

Tanuja requests I add to my narrative that purity is also here, we all concur.

As Elke is saving us much time through ‘speedlimitless” driving, we have had a chance to make a few stops through this magical land.

We had a chance to swim in the cleanest waters, witness amazing vistas laden with waterfalls

and picnic over waters. This is indeed one of the highlights of our Canadian travesty.

-Elke Lindner

The B team also enjoyed the morning ceremony with the three schools and had an eventful day the details of which we won't mention here...

We celebrated Anvita's birthday

and made some friends at Old Womans Cove, Gregg and Amanda from Haliburton

Enjoying a view of Lake Superior.

The last pit stop before we finished for the day was Marathon and of course we had to record the event.
