Australia, 19 June: Brisbane

Today, Sunday, was a day of rest for the World Harmony Run - but even on quiet days, we still participate in community events. Today was a day before World Refugee Day, and at Brisbane’s Captain Burke Park, the World Refugee Day Festival was attended by a number of intrepid people, who had braved rain and cold weather to show their support for refugees and social justice. The festival was launched by World Harmony Runners, carrying the torch on to the stage.

On-stage with the runners and other special guests, Karen Struthers, Queensland’s Parliamentary Secretary assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs (seen here holding the World Harmony Torch with Queensland World Harmony Run coordinator Kapila Moses and religious leaders at the festival), opened the festival with an impassioned speech, challenging Australia to be more accepting of refugees.

For the rest of the day, the runners took turns manning a World Harrmony Run booth, at which the public was able to learn more about the Run, with images from around the world.
