Australia, 21 June: Brisbane and Gold Coast

St Andrew's Hospital, Spring Hill

The World Harmony Run torch has been taken to extraordinary places and been held by extraordinary people, though apparently it had never been taken to a hospital, until today. After being greeted and fed by an enthusiastic reception (including General Manager Melinda McGrath), the team were guided through the hospital by the very cool chaplain John Mahoney, who introduced the runners to staff and patients on each floor. As usual, people were offered the opportunity to hold the torch and offer good will, though it seemed only fitting for us to offer flowers in return - freshly plucked this morning. A big thanks to all at St Andrew's who we were fortunate enough to meet, and especially to Chaplain John Mahoney for being so kind and willing to make our visit as memorable as possible.

Warner Bros. Movie World, Gold Coast

As a participant in the World Harmony Run, you never really know what totally unpredictable experience is waiting for you, just minutes away.

Shortly after arriving at the theme park/movie studio Warner Bros. Movie World (House of Wax was shot there just recently) our Brisbane coordinator Kapila Moses found herself being interviewed for Channel 9 News (the highest rating news program) and moments later, being chauffeured in a gold convertible limousine side by side with Bugs Bunny .

An adoring crowd cheered the runners (oh okay, and Bugs) as they cruised around the park waving gleefully and holding the World Harmony Run torch aloft. The only thing that came close to upstaging the runners, was a frenetic Porky Pig shaking his bacon to Robbie William's “Let Me Entertain You”. Better luck next time Porky... Thanks to Warner Bros. Movie World for allowing the World Harmony Run to lead the celebrity parade. We will never forget this amazing experience.

Ron Clarke, Gold Coast Mayor

The last meeting on the last day of the Queensland leg of the World Harmony Run was going to have to be special. Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke welcomed the World Harmony Run team to his council chambers, where we made an informal gathering, a bit like visiting an old friend.

Many would know that long before Ron Clarke became Mayor of the Gold Coast, he was a legendary middle-distance runner, breaker of 18 world records. After sharing some kind words about the Run and its founder, Sri Chinmoy , Mayor Ron Clarke recounted some precious life experiences and philosophies regarding the need for focus and dynamism when striving to achieve something significant (like world harmony perhaps?). It should also be mentioned that shortly before our meeting, Mayor Ron Clarke had endorsed the World Harmony Run on ABC Gold Coast radio. May we join Sri Chinmoy in praise of Ron Clarke, an indomitable pillar of sincerity and selflessness, and a true blessing for the Gold Coast.
