Australia 7 September: Star of the National Song Competition

Today the World Harmony Run made a special visit to Star of the Sea Primary School at Henley Beach in Adelaide, Primary School Audio winner of the nationwide World Harmony Run theme song competition.

During a presentation about Australia’s Harmony Run, the children offered many suggestions of how they can bring harmony into their school or family. These included buying someone flowers or making them a gift, trying to get along and not fight, and just being nice. After our discussions on harmony, and accounts of runners’ experiences in the major relay earlier this year, we made the special announcement that Star of the Sea Primary had won the nationwide competition for arrnagements and performances of the World-Harmony-Run them song.

Following wild cheers from all, the victorious school band launched into the song. This arrangement differed slightly from the CD sent to us, featuring the bandmaster playing a spectacular intro on trumpet (instead of piano), which we all loved even more! Both the original award-winning arrangement, and today's spectacular performance can be heard here. We were blown away by the talent of these primary school children, especially after one girl in the band exclaimed: “We learnt the World Harmony Run Song in an hour!”

This treat to the ears was over all too fast but was eagerly followed by hundreds of children racing down to the oval to form a HUGE circle where we passed the torch to every child to make their important wishes for world harmony.

We ended our hour-long visit by running three or four laps around the oval, with the children enthusiastically holding the torch and passing it to friends and peers whilst running. Many thanks to Principal Michael Honey for your enthusiastic support, and to all the band and teachers for your kind comments and infectious joy shared between all of us.

Star of the Sea, we simply can’t wait to return and visit you next year, and look forward to your active participation in a relay run and school curriculum activities.
