Recreation Centers - Summer Camps - Advance Visits
Representatives of the World Harmony Run in New York have begun to visit 24 Recreation Centers and Summer Camps in the 5 boroughs of NYC. These visits are in advance of the big event in Flushing Meadow- Corona Park on 19th August. The run around the USA will be returning to NY for the day's events.
Below is the beginning report and photosof 03 August 2010(see also more images ) in gallery; Additional Photos and more full reports will be posted here in due course;
for some reports of other sumer camps in NYC recently visited see: http://www.worldharmonyrun.org/unesco_year/lih_camp/nyc_rc
In each location one of the runners gives a short introduction. If the video equipment is available we show a short DVD video (around 6 minutes) that has been very well received.. We then have a very good discussion which includes a number of items described more at end of this report.Hansborough Recreation Center Summer Camp
gave us a very enthusiastic welcome.
After explaing what the Run was all about we headed outside to run with the torch.
These young speedsters might be future World Harmony Runners.
The group gathered at the foot of a wonderful mural which is on the side of the building.
Mickey Posario, Camp Director is very much looking forward to the event of August 19.
St. Mary's Recreation Centre Summer Camp
A short trip across the East River into the Bronx and we dropped in at St. Mary's Recreation Centre Summer Camp and showed our video.
All the campers had a chance to hold the torch and make a wish for peace.
Even the camp counselors made a wish for peace.
Much to the delight of the campers the counselors ran with the torch around the activites room.
Thanks very much and we look forward to seeing everyone on August 19th.
