 Run to opening ceremony in New York City

The 11,000-mile USA World Harmony Run, with an international team, is a four-month, biennial journey, encompassing all 50 States. "Every little step is every person finding a little more harmony for themselves," says US coordinator Atulya Berube.

Before the opening ceremony in New York City, five running teams came together from all five boroughs to meet at the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, next to the United Nations.

 San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge

"Today marks the 70th Anniversary of the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is auspiciously perfect timing that we were scheduled to run with the World Harmony
Torch over this incredible landmark and masterpiece of technical engineering. The fog and mist were quite prevalent everywhere as we started our run in downtown San
Francisco towards the bridge.

Being led by two police escorts who closed off the intersections for us, we wove our way up to the north part of town where we could see the Golden Gate Bridge looming high above us shrouded in the fog, a typical scene on a San Francisco morning. The two police motorcycle escorts led us carefully and enthusiastically to the start of the bridge where many tourists were gathering as well. It was very exciting and dramatic

The World Harmony Run in the USA takes place every second year from April to August. One of the landmarks visited was the Statue of Liberty in New York in 2008, where the Torch was lit by Carl Lewis at the start of the opening ceremony.
