Una primicia para el continente americano: la ciudad de Mazatlán inauguró «El Monumento de Paz Sri Chinmoy» en el corazón de su hermoso centro turístico, en un parque de paz junto al océano Pacífico. El parque fue creado especialmente como hogar permanente para la estatua de bronce de 2 metros de altura del líder de la armonía mundial Sri Chinmoy sosteniendo la Antorcha de la Paz de la Carrera de Armonía Mundial que él mismo fundara en 1987. Esculpida por el artista londinense Kaivalya P. Torpy, la estatua original fue fundida en la República Checa y descubierta durante un gran acto público por el Presidente Municipal Jorge Abel López Sánchez acompañado del escultor.

A first for the Americas, the city of Mazatlan inaugurated “The Sri Chinmoy Peace Monument” in the heart of their beautiful tourist centre at a peace park overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The park was specially created as a permanent home for the bronze 2-metre statue of world harmony leader Sri Chinmoy holding the Peace Torch from the World Harmony Run which he founded in 1987. Sculpted by London artist Kaivalya P. Torpy, the unique statue was cast in the Czech Republic and unveiled during a large public event by Mayor Jorge Abel Lopez Sanchez along with the sculptor.

«Es un honor para la Ciudad de Mazatlán», afirmó el Presidente Municipal López Sánchez, «tener esta estatua con nosotros de una persona tan importante como Sri Chinmoy, por su servicio mundial en pro de la paz para la humanidad. Él es un símbolo de armonía, amor, fraternidad e integridad. Especialmente en esta época de gran necesidad de amor a lo largo y ancho del mundo, Sri Chinmoy trabajó incansablemente por la solidaridad de toda la humanidad».

La banda musical y el equipo de gimnasia del Departamento de Bomberos de Mazatlán −con todo esto: tambores, pirámides acrobáticas y una sirena permanente− mucho agregaron a la ceremonia oficial que fue preparada por representantes locales y funcionarios de la ciudad.

“It is an honour for the City of Mazatlan,” stated Mayor Lopez Sanchez, “to have this statue with us of such an important person as Sri Chinmoy, with his worldwide service for peace for humanity. He is a symbol of harmony, love, fraternity and integrity. Especially in this time of great need for love throughout the world, Sri Chinmoy worked tirelessly for the solidarity of all humanity.”

The music band and gymnastics team from the Mazatlan Fire Department —complete with drums, acrobatic pyramids and an active siren—greatly added to the official ceremony which was prepared by local representatives and city officials.

Sri Chinmoy, quien falleció hace dos años, dejó tras de sí un precioso legado de ofrendas de paz para animar a las generaciones presentes y futuras: ofrendas espirituales, poéticas, musicales y atléticas. Sri Chinmoy puso en práctica su propia filosofía de auto-trascendencia para la causa de la amistad internacional: al escribir más de 1.600 libros publicados, componer letras y músicas de más de 21.000 canciones, y levantar por encima de su cabeza a más de 8.000 individuos con el propósito de honrarles en sus esfuerzos por mejorar el estándar de la humanidad. Así también ofreció casi 800 Conciertos de Paz gratuitos por todo el mundo, condujo la Meditación por la Paz en la sede de las Naciones Unidas de Nueva York durante tres décadas y escribió más de 100.000 poemas. Además, Sri Chinmoy fundó «Las Lágrimas y Sonrisas del Corazón-Unidad», un programa de servicio humanitario en más de 120 países, como así también el Equipo de Maratón Sri Chinmoy que patrocina 500 pruebas atléticas todos los años, incluyendo la Prueba de Auto-Trascendencia de 3.100 Millas en la Ciudad de Nueva York.

Sri Chinmoy, who passed on two years ago, left behind a precious legacy of peace offerings for the upliftment of both present and future generations through spiritual, poetic, musical and athletic offerings. Sri Chinmoy put into practice his own philosophy of self-transcendence for the cause of international friendship: writing over 1,600 published books; composing the words and music to more than 21,000 songs; and lifting overhead more than 8,000 individuals to honour their efforts in improving the standard of humanity. As well, he offered nearly 800 Peace Concerts throughout the globe free of charge; led the Peace Meditation at the United Nations at UN Headquarters in New York for three decades and wrote over 100,000 poems. In addition, Sri Chinmoy founded The Oneness-Heart-Tears and Smiles, a programme of humanitarian service in over 120 countries; as well as the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team which sponsors 500 athletic races every year, including the 3,100 Mile Self-Transcendence Race in New York City.

Durante los 43 años que Sri Chinmoy vivió en occidente, Sri Chinmoy fue amigo cercano de numerosas personalidades del mundo, entre ellas la Madre Teresa, el Presidente Mikhail Gorbachev, el Presidente Nelson Mandela, el Papa Juan Pablo II, el Arzobispo Desmond Tutu, el atleta olímpico Carl Lewis y cientos de celebridades, desde artistas hasta científicos de todos los rincones del orbe, que compartieron sus altos ideales a favor del mejoramiento de la humanidad.

During the 43 years Sri Chinmoy lived in the West, Sri Chinmoy established close friendships with many world luminaries, including Mother Teresa, President Mikhail Gorbachev, President Nelson Mandela, Pope John Paul II, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Olympic athlete Carl Lewis and hundreds of celebrities, from artists to scientists in all corners of the globe who shared his high ideals for the betterment of humanity.

Por su servicio significativo a favor de la armonía mundial, Sri Chinmoy recibió numerosos galardones, entre ellos El Premio Corazón de Oro de la Sociedad de Autores y Compositores de México (SACAM), los galardones nacionales más altos de numerosas naciones, el Premio Gandhi de la Paz, el Medallón Nehru de la UNESCO y el Premio Peregrino de la Paz de Italia.

Because of his significant service for world harmony, Sri Chinmoy received many awards, including The Heart of Gold Award by the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM), the highest national awards from many nations, the Gandhi Peace Award, UNESCO’s Nehru Medallion and the Pilgrim of Peace Award from Italy.

El Maestro Sri Chinmoy ofreció la siguiente obra musical que compuso para la Ciudad de Mazatlán en Diciembre de 1981:

Maestro Sri Chinmoy offered the following musical piece which he composed for Mazatlan City in December 1981:

El centro comercial Gran Plaza abrió sus puertas para ofrecer una exposición del arte de Sri Chinmoy desde el 19 hasta el 29 de noviembre, en ocasión del 35º aniversario de Jharna-Kala (que significa «Arte de la Fuente» en bengalí). La colección Jharna-Kala –sumamente elogiada- incluye más de 140.000 pinturas acrílicas y 16 millones de dibujos de línea de «Almas de Aves» en vuelo. Selecciones de esta vasta obra de trabajos artísticos brillantemente coloreados han sido exhibidas en muchas salas y museos renombrados del mundo, entre ellos el Louvre de Paris, el Museo de Arte de Maracaibo, Venezuela y el de Alexander Koenig en Alemania.

The Grand Plaza shopping mall opened its doors to offer an exhibit of Sri Chinmoy’s art from November 19 to November 29, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Jharna-Kala (signifying “Fountain-Art” in Bengali). The highly praised Jharna-Kala collection includes over 140,000 acrylic paintings and 16 million line drawings of “Soul-Birds” in flight. Selections from this vast work of brilliantly coloured art works have been exhibited in many of the world’s renowned halls and museums, including the Louvre in Paris, Museum of Art in Maracaibo, Venezuela and Alexander Konig in Germany.
