Italy 16 September: S. Margherita Ligure - Acqui Terme

We had an early start in S. Margherita Ligure; the torch was about to travel a very unusual way that day...

..the pan was to carry the torch around and through the Parc of Portofino...

..the first rays of the rising sun hit S. Margherita Ligure...

...we carried the torch towards Paraggi, where we awaited the arrival of our boat...

..we met a group of athletes who came with their kayaks...

Luca Tixi of Outdoor Portofino Club receives the torch

...a short presentation and we fixed the torch on one of the kayaks...

...the torch travelled into the sunrise around the cape of Portofino...

..there are funny people on the sea...

..our boat joined the kayaks...

..our destination: San Fruttuoso....

...there we met a group of divers from the Nucleo Sommozzatori Carabinieri di Genova ....

...the torch was handed over to the Carabinieri...

...all the divers got ready...

...under water a statue of the Christ is hidden: a diver's paradise...our friend Mickey Martinuzzi is exited, can't wait to dive...

...after the dive the Carabinieri handed the torch over to a group of runners from the Gruppo Atletica Due Perle...

...some of the runners where serious ultra distance runners...

...only uphill...

...a tough run all the way up to Ruta...

..the goal was won!

...others celebrated meanwhile with coffee...

...and sweets...

...what a view! In the distance we could already see Genova...

...as we arrived in Genova we went into the church of San Benedetto

Don Gallo, a famous Italian priest, received us warmly...

...after an introduction of the World Harmony Run he passed the torch to the people in the church...

...and we sang the World Harmony Run Song...

...Don Gallo treated us for a nice lunch. Thank you for the hospitality!

...the last glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea. From now on we headed Northwards towards the Alps...

...into the hills of Piemonte...

...and after a long Run we reached Acqui Terme...

...a nice ending for a long day!

...hot springs in the middle of the city!
