Italy 9 September: Venice - Padova
Sunrise in Cavallino Treporti...
Once more a big "Thank You" to Casa per Ferie Regina Mundi for hosting the team!
..we took the ferry boat to Venice. As you approach the city, a timeless breathtaking view welcomes you!
...endless canals full of life...
La Salute...the magnificence of barocco veneziano
...Ponte dei Sospiri...one of the most famous bridges of the world, the poetic name was given by Lord Byron.
The Lion of Saint Mark, representing the evangelist Saint Marc, pictured in the form of a winged lion, is the symbol of the city of Venice.
San Marco...the Quintessence of Venice
...a boat ride in one of the famous "gondole"...
What a contrast: the poetic beauty of the gondola and the out of scale dimension of the cruise ships.
Palazzo Ducale - the residence of the Doge...
...and that's the parking place...
...a "City World Harmony Walk" - as there is no way of running in Venice. Simply too many tourists...
...we went first to the Basilica di San Marco, where the priest blessed the torch...
The Carnival is iconic in Venice... By the 18th century, it was limited only to about three months!
Ponte di Rialto...challenges the centuries with its acrobatic architecture.
..after the Rialto bridge we went straight to the Palazzo Cavalli. The representative of sport received us warmly...
...we received the golden Lion of Venice...
What a great view from the office! It's like to contemplate a Canaletto painting.
The house of Marco Polo...a real inspiration for our team! He embodied the spirit of the explorer and the multiculturalism
...Campanile...
Our last meeting in Venice: the Rabbi of the Synagoge of Venice received the torch.
We left Venice and went towards Padova. Most of the time we ran along the river Brenta.
...a "dog day afternoon"...
Runners from Podisti di Dolo and Sarmati di Strà joined us all the way to Padova.
They brought homemade cookies...
...cyclist from Dolo accompanied us the whole afternoon...
Mario Labadessa, director of "Bici d' Epoca", came on his unusual bike...
...some of our runners tried as well...
Guliano Calore, a multi-Guinness record holder...
...we reached Padova...
The last meters. With us running was also the deputy president of FIDAL...
We were invited for the closing ceremony of an inline skater race on the famous "Prato della Valle", the largest square in Europe!
...we went on stage...
The "assessore dello sport" of Padova received the torch...
...all the kids passed the torch. A very nice ending for a great day!
