Canada 6 September: Fredericton, NB - Hartland, NB
Team A
We began in Fredericton, NB and enjoyed a beautiful run along the quiet country roads towards Nackawic, NB.
Eric was running very well this morning. He says he has much more energy in the morning.
When we did get to Nackawic, we were met by the very gracious Ms. Rowena Simpson, Mayor of this delightful town. She was a wealth of information about the town and presented us with a fascinating book about the region's history. Mayor Simpson has served on the Nackawic Coucil for an incredible 16 years and was elected Mayor in May - Congratulations.
Deputy Mayor of Nackawic Jacques Laroche was also on hand to welcome us to town.
Nackawic also happens to be the home of the world's largest axe - that's it behind us.
Coincidentally Rathin had eaten some special cereal in the morning that made him as big as the axe, so he was able to chop fire wood for us in the evening. (Trouble was he could not longer fit in the car).
At the axe head - Note: Rathin was back to his normal size.
We happened to meet some Nova Scotia tourists who were taking a look at the axe as we were meeting the Mayor. They were really appreciative of our efforts and all bought T-shirts.
Hugs for all the runners.
- Salil Wilson
Team B
Now it’s 11:33 pm and the daily report should be ready for you by now but instead I am sitting here in front of the pictures feeling they can say it all… so just take a look and see for yourself!
Open-air-Yoga with Sevati
A beautiful run through the countryside near Nackawick.
Adarini, who is our photographer and is hardly ever t seen in the pictures, was in the centre of attention today. Every day she gets fitter and increases her mileage.
Here the cows were running loose on the highway. Then Adarini and the Torch came along and bravely herded them back home, with the some help from the farmer.
We met with Woodstock Mayor Arthur Slipp, who proudly wore his sons Canadian Junior Hockey Team Canada jersey for the occasion.
The Woodstock Running Club joined us on our way out of town.
Mary-Kim Schriver is a very special person. She spontaneously joined us for the 20-km run from Woodstock to Hartland. She is a very good runner and has always wanted to run this stretch of road. Today her dream came true. Thank you Mary-Kim. You were a big inspiration for our team.
We crossed over/through the World's Longest Covered Bridge to reach Heartland.
Here we were warmly welcomed by the Smith family: Jason, Lynette, Ashtyn and Oakley.
The photo speaks for itself.
I would love to share more with you, but now I have to close because my roommates are sleeping, and I can not concentrate anymore. See you again tomorrow!
