Canada 3 September: Halifax, NS - Halifax, NS
This is the fabulous view we were greeted with upon arising from a wonderful night's rest at our host Jhulan's residence.
Our first appointment of the day was a meeting and short run around the centre of Halifax with the Mayor Peter Kelly.
The beautiful clock tower in the centre of Halifax.
Prapti leads the women's team into Dartmouth.
Councillor Bill Karsten of Dartmouth takes the torch on its continued journey.
Councillor Outhit greets the women's team in Bedford.
Councillor Bill Karsten and representatives from Dartmouth municipality, Councillor Tim Outhit of Bedford, and Councillor Garry Mead of the Seabright District, who raced alongside us in his bright yellow corvette, were also present.
Our days Run ended along the beautiful route through Indian Harbour. We stopped at East St. Margaret's Elementary School where community members welcomed us. Together we had a sweet and spontaneous ceremony.
Still in the spirit of the Run we decided to carry the Torch into Peggy's Cove for some photo ops. Left and right, tourists were curious about the flaming Torch. We had a lot of fun, especially in the lighthouse mini-Post Office! Thanks everyone.
At Indian Harbour Gabriel and Rathin couldn't resist going fishing.
Rathin had a very scenic run right by the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
Councillor Reg Rankin greeted the torch at Peggy's Cove Information Centre and shared some of the more significant initiatives Canada has implemented in international peace- keeping and conflict resolution.
That's the world famous Peggy's Cove lighthouse in the background.
Jhulan couldn't resist the world famous gingerbread with lashings of lemon sauce, ice cream and whipped cream. Mmmmmmmm! Oh, to be an elite athlete.
Jhulan- working off some of those hard earned calories.
Rathin was quite a celebrity with all the tourists visiting Peggy's Cove.
A young torch bearer of tomorrow.
Eric prepares himself to run.
And there he is overcoming injury to clock up 3.5 km for the day - nice going Eric!
Barbara Allen from the Prospect Communities Group met us in Hatchett Lake along with Councillor Reg Rankin who came out again in the afternoon.
The students of Brookside Junior High were finishing their first day of school as we were finishing our first day of running.
Jhulan just kept on getting faster and faster.
Sarita (second from left) owner of Satisfaction-Feast, one of Halifax's finest vegetarian restaurants, hosted us to delicious meals our entire time in Halifax - We'll definitely be back!!
