Australia May 30: Traralgon-Bairnsdale
We were greeted by the staff and students of Grey Street Primary School, Traralgon.
Led by Luke, one of the school’s champion cross-country runners, the team was greeted with rapturous applause. Thanks to the staff and students, and especially one of the teachers, Rainier Verhaan.
Wellington Shire Council, Councilman Peter Cleary. Having lived all over Australia, Mr Cleary loves Sale - but after 37 years in the Air Force, his adopted home town is not his only love. He is one of Australia’s most dedicated aviation buffs...
The World Harmony Runners then met a very spirited group of Sale children at Araluen Primary School. Mark arrived a few minutes early, asking the kids to give a cheer for the runners as they entered. He (and the teachers) were quite unprepared for the ruckus that followed, as the kids screamed with delight. The excitement never completely died down, and the applause for the runners’ rendition of the World Harmony Run song was one of the loudest of the Run!
The runners called in for a visit to the East Gippsland Shire Council’s Kate Nelson, who has actually competed in the Sri Chinmoy Long-Course Triathlon in Canberra (a 20km run, 80km ride and 2.2km swim). She now wanted to join the World Harmony Run team out on the road.
St Mary’s Primary School-we were greeted by hundreds of smiling and happy children, who joined us for several laps of their oval.
The runners then raced to Bruthen Primary School, where children had learned about harmony through poetry before our arrival. Among the students’ efforts…
Let there be no cruel people.
Let everyone be happy.
Let there be no litter and our lakes and rivers have no pollution.
No more wars.
Let there be peace.
No more guns for bad people.
Let there be more flowers and playground.
Let there be no weeds.
Let there be food for the poor.
Let there be money for the poor.
Let the homeless live in houses.
Let there be hospitals for the sick.
Jack Dixon
I wish there would be no diseases or cancer.
I wish peace among all countries and friendship among all countries.
I wish the waters were as blue as a the sky and the grass as green as a healthy tree.
I wish nothing was in danger.

We arrived at our accommodation later that evening: Mitchell Gardens Holiday Park, where they kindly supported the World Harmony Run with an excellent cabin overlooking Bairnsdale with views of (you guessed it) a beautiful lake.
