Australia, 25 May: Day 2, Tasmania
After being deluged yesterday, today we were blessed with mild weather as we began our journey out of Hobart throught the centre of Tasmania. This is Prabuddha Nicol, of Perth (Western Australia), as he flies down the highway to our first meeting at Bagdad Primary School.
The Principal, Fiona Atkins, arranged for the whole school to have an opportunity to hold the torch in the quadrangle.
One class had prepared fantastic posters about the run which we were really impressed with. The kids were thrilled to hold the torch and to hear our theme song.
We finished our visit with a collective run down the road that approaches the school. We really enjoyed running together!
While our boys team were there, our girls team visited Glenorchy Primary School. Nearly 100 Year 4-6 students eagerly questioned the runners about this event and were excited to hold the World Harmony Torch. The staff gave us a very warm welcome and the Principal, Wendy Burrows, was very sympathetic with our aim of spreading harmony and expressed her gratitude for our visit and the inspiration it generated within her school. We want to thank you, Wendy, for receiving us so graciously. The kids really had fun holding up our banner and making their individual wishes for World Harmony as they passed the torch around.
We continued our journeys from these schools and met up again at Oatlands High School. There, Jonathon Samson-Gower, the Year 9-10 teacher, arranged for a small group of eager runners from Years 8, 9 and 10 to run a few kilometres with us through the town of Oatlands all the way back to the highway. These young men were so keen, that even our seasoned runners were struggling to keep up with them! It was great. Thanks for joining us.
A big thank you to Bill & Mel, owners of Ross Caravan Park, for their generous support.
