USA 16 July: Colome, SD - Tyndall, SD

The woman’s team hit the road early today to escape the midday heat, but it was already very hot by 10 a.m.

But we met wonderful new friends on the road, which made our day in the heat totally worth it.

First we had a reporter, Joe Fahrenbacher from the Burke Gazette, waiting for us on the road shortly after Burke. They even got so lucky to meet our van together with the RV, which made a very nice background for pictures.

Later on we had a nice chat with Carla Schmitz from Terrick, who so kindly offered us to arrange a supper in her relative’s restaurant. Unlucky for us, it was too far from our destination and sleeping place Tyndall, but it didn’t discourage her from finding some other way to help us and bring us joy.

Just a few miles later we saw Carla again with a bag full of beautiful shampoos, conditioners, body milks etc. Thank you so much Carla. They were just what we needed when we arrived at Tyndall’s public swimming pool to take a shower before another meeting. All of our stuff was in the RV in Yankton!

After the run we even managed a short rest at the dam we passed by.

As we arrived in Tyndall, we were greeted by the local paper and two new friends from the Rotary Club, Rod and Cathy Skorpic. Oh and their 125lb 5 year old, Fred. (Squirrel!!!)

They very kindly invited us to their home, offering us egg salad sandwiches and myriad other snacks.

We shared stories and had some very nice conversations.

Rod very excitedly showed us his place of work and some of the machines and vehicles that they work on. "We've been in business for 46 years now!" said Rod. Congratulations and thank you!

After settling in to City Park in Tyndall the local law enforcement stopped by to check-in on us. Thanks for looking after us.
