USA 30 May: Chromo, CO - Hesperus, CO
Moving 16 people and 3 vehicles over 100 miles each day is a logistical challenge, especially if you add in ceremony times as well as meal preparation and distribution. Watch our team at a vehicle switch. We usually move slightly slower than this.
It was a beautiful crisp and sunny morning in colourful Colorado.
The temperature during the night had dipped below freezing and it was refreshing to run in the clean crisp mountain air. `
Unfortunately, the women's team had to sleep in it! They survived, but weren't terribly refreshed. However, they still managed to smile while telling the boys the story.
The sky so vast and blue and we could see snow on the peaks in the distance. As we approached Pagosa Springs we were filmed and interviewed by West Davies, a local resident who was very interested in our run (www.allthingspagosa.com).
At Pagosa Springs we were invited by Jane McKain, the president in charge to the Pagosa Fiber Festival (www.pagosafiberfestival.org) where...
...we were met by Rich Fiorucci, the outdoor coordinator and announcer.
We met many people and visitors to the area and our team were especially enchanted with the alpacas. (The alpaca is the one in the middle.)
Many sections of our route today included long steep hills and the view once you reached the top were truly spectacular and breathtaking.
Vladimir was nicely greeted by Jennifer and Carlos as he ran through the low mountains of Colorado.
At Durango this weekend is the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic races (www ironhorsebicycleclassic.com).
The Criterium Race is a closed race around the downtown area and there were many competitors in fancy dress and with some novel bicycle designs. We got the opportunity to run behind some of the competitors as they cycled along the main street of downtown Durango.
At Durango we also met up with a very good friend of the run, ultra runner Mark Dorian, his wife Helen and their two children. Along with the girls’ team, Mark and Arpan later ran up the steep climb out of Durango.
After an exhilarating day we all met up at the hotel where we ate out dinner and enjoyed Mark and Helen’s wonderful company. Mark kindly gave the team some t-shirts of races that he organizes in El Paso, Texas.
We say good-bye to Miss Becky today.
She was a wonderful addition to the team and we really look forward to having her join the team again in the future. Thank you so much for your cheerful service! We hope you make it to the New Zealand World Harmony Run.
We are very grateful to the kind offerings of Ramada Limited...
...and The Iron Horse Inn in Durango for supporting the team with two rooms each.
