USA 6 May: San Diego - Longbeach

At 8:00 a.m. we departed from Jyoti-Bihanga restaurant to continue our journey northwards through California. We had about 78 miles to run ending in Long Beach, CA.

We started by running down near the ocean and along Mission Blvd.

Along the route we stopped at Integral Elementary School, a beautiful place in La Jolla. At our arrival we were welcomed by the children singing along with Louie Armstrong "What a Wonderful World."

It was staged outside in front of a nice background painted with a rainbow and hearts, it was very charming and touching to behold.

Again in attendance was Mayoral Representative Ron Lacey who awarded the Vice Principal Carla Gerstein a proclamation stating that May 6th is World Harmony Run day in San Diego. Torch Bearer awards were given to harmonious students including Cori, Morgan, Tiahm, and Kai. Thanks to Shelly Glaze, 2nd grade and up teacher, who helped to encourage these children.

Another sweet part of the ceremony was when the students did a yoga demonstration for us. Downward dog, tree, triangle among other poses ending with a seated pose and folded hands.

This exercise brought much peace and joy. A little girl named Amber chimed in saying that we should practice our yoga every day at home except Wednesday and Friday. Then she offered some nutritional advice to the runners, "eat brownies everyday", again with the same caveat. It was funny and cute.

Palash was the biggest runner of the day logging 15 miles. Good job!

Thank you so much Manorath and Pranami for organizing such great events in the San Diego area.

Many of our friends came to enjoy the ceremony and do some running with us including, Sujantra, Agragati, Julian, Uhaina, Gary, Papaha, Dimitry, Banalata, Olivia and Vladimir. It was a great joy and pleasure to share this day with you all.

Our day ended with some more great running along the coast of California with beautiful ocean views and colorful flowers full of sweet fragrance.

Adhitatha's Sister, Moira Keefe-Oats loves the Harmony Run and supported the event for many years. They are in front of the car of Moira's daughter, who is now  in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic.

We would like to thank Chris and John from Walt's Wharf for very kindly providing us a delicious meal.

We were very grateful to the Guesthouse for hosting us for the night.

More shots from the day...

Julian got a big cheer as he departed the school.
