USA 11 August: Hollis Center, ME - Rye Beach, ME

We started off our running this morning with two special guests, Portland Mayor Edward Suslovic and his daughter Meghan. They ran with us for about two miles and then passed the torch to ...

South Portland Mayor Jim Soule. He carried torch with us for four miles. We always love having runners join us, and it is epecially nice to have mayors on the team.

Our state coordinator's- Polly Goodyear - grandchildren, Evan and Casey also joined us. They seemed to really enjoy themselves!

Mayor Soule later met us at Camp Ketcha in Scarborough, where we were greeted by 250 excited children.

Atulya shared the team's message and a little history about the run and the founder, Sri Chinmoy.

Afterward we played our guessing game with the children to test their knowledge of the world.

Our brother and sister teammates, Parichayaka and Ankurika, are always a challenge for the kids to guess. Austria is always a tough one to get!

Holland is a little less challenging, which brings a smile to Annemarie's face.

She was really thinking about the answers.

Finally, what all the children are always waiting for, a chance to hold the torch.

Thank you Camp Ketha for a wonderful experience!

Later that afernoon, the team met up with Saco Mayor Ron Michaud and Councilman Eric Cote to run a few miles. It was such a rare day to have so many public servants join us in the run for harmony.

We had one final visit with Biddeford Mayor Joanne Twomey. Thank you to the great state of Maine for all your support!

In the evening, we were invited to a lovely dinner at

Diane and Stephen Brandon’s home. They and several other members of the Baha’i Community created a terrific potluck. We are extremely grateful not only for dinner but also for bailing us out of sleeping in our tents at a campground in a torrential downpour.

– Atulya
