USA 11 June: Idaho Falls, ID to Carey, ID
Sevati responds to an enthusiastic cheer from one of the many friendly and supportive folks in Idaho.
Video of the first month in USA
Following along the Snake River plains, we had a relatively flat and seemingly endless road to run on all day. Flanked by distant snow capped mountains to the north and ancient volcanic Buttes to the south, this peaceful Sunday morning offered ideal conditions for Francesco’s 21 mile run.
“ We’re singing! We’re dancing! We’re as happy as can be! And the best part of all…the piano was free.”
Among the many valuable experiences the World Harmony Run has to offer, the runners have a great opportunity to train for more serious racing when they return back home. Although running is not the main objective we are trying to promote, it certainly takes center stage when it comes to spreading the message of harmony from point A to point B everyday.
The happy brother and sister team of Cole, Cody and Kylie smiled away the miles with Edi, our Romanian Ambassador of Harmony.
Along this ancient plain of regular volcanic activity underground, we ran through an area called Craters of the Moon. It is an amazingly bleak but interesting array of volcanic rock formations, most of it being very dark or even black in color.
We can learn so much simply by observing the perfection of Nature’s balancing act.
The sharp and jagged rock of all sizes was quite a contrast to the reddish rocks and green mountains of the past few weeks. We also stumbled upon a spring of warm underground water as we took a break for lunch among the ‘craters’.
The surprise discovery of a hidden warm spring gave the guys a delightful break after there run through the lava flow area known as the “Craters of the Moon” National Park.
The water was clear and clean and just the right temperature to relax our weary legs for a few minutes along the way to our destination in Ketchum.
Before we reached Ketchum though, we made an earlier stop at Pickles Place in Arco. This cozy café and restaurant offers quite an array of delicious foods, but the most unique dish they offer are fried pickles. It may sound strange to most of you who have never tried this extraordinary concoction, but it was quite tasty. John, the owner, was quite generous in offering my small group of four runners a noontime snack there. Jerri and Frances, the waitresses, were very kind and friendly as were some of the customers who took interest in what we were doing there. Sandy and Willie posed for some photos for us and even offered to get something in the local newspaper about our event. Our short stop in Arco was a very memorable one and we are grateful to all those who offered harmony in their own unique ways.
Finally making it to our evening destination of Ketchum and Sun Valley which are premier tourist locations especially for winter sports, we settled into two hotels for the night, the Best Western Tyrolean Lodge
and the Tamarack Lodge. The management in both places were very generous in offering us two rooms each. We are grateful to them for their hospitality and friendliness as well.
The cosmic and the delicious come together at The Akasha Natural Foods Café in Ketchum, Idaho. We offer a very grateful pranam to Ananda, our gracious host and brother.
For dinner we were hosted by our friends Ananda Kriya, Darren and his sweet dog Luke. They prepared for us an amazing organic and healthy meal mostly of raw foods that not only pleased the palate by gave us a new level of energy without weighing us down. The café is located inside the Chapter One bookstore run by Cheryl. At the bookstore as well as in the café within it, the vibrations of health and harmony abound. One can spend hours there reading and eating as well as nourishing the soul and the body at the same time.
We are also grateful to Allee who helped prepare and serve and Krishna and Surendra, who are helping to build a spiritual Temple up in the mountains nearby. In Ketchum we found wonderful harmony lovers and truth seekers who live their beliefs and share their healthy lifestyle with all those who come here to enjoy it.
Gratefully,
Arpan and Team Harmony
God’s Country
Rolling hills of virgin green
Beauty like I have never seen
Mountain peaks laced with snow
Flowing rivers all emerald glow
Mother Nature’s glory-spree
All across God’s Country.
Eagles soaring through air so brisk
Buffalo grazing in the morning mist
Deer drinking from crystal streams
Rabbits playing in the bright sun beams
Mother Nature’s glory-spree
All across God’s Country.
Boundless fields of flowers and grain
Billowing clouds bringing rain
Peaks and valleys carved by Her hand
Enchanting masterpieces of land
Mother Nature’s glory-spree
All across Gods’ Country.
