USA 10 June: Thayne, WY to Idaho Falls, ID

Video of the first month in USA

The Flat Creek Inn of Jackson Hole in Wyoming was a fine place to stay and a difficult place to leave. Surrounded by mountains and ski and snowboarding hills everywhere, one can see why this area is a very popular place for winter sports. Even in the late spring tourists seem to be everywhere, although most of the snow down in the valley is gone.

Carl King, the kind owner of the Inn happened to be around when we were checking out. It was a nice coincidence that we were able to meet each other and explain firsthand what our group and our run is all about.

He himself is still a great athlete being quite active in tennis and snowboarding. A few decades ago he was a top ranking professional tennis player and he lived in Italy for ten years while competing in the European and world pro tennis circuit.

Moving on, we had to travel up the switchbacks and steep inclines to ascend out of the valley called Jackson Hole. It was an incredibly scenic ride up to Teton Pass, elevation 8,431 feet. That is almost 3,000 metres! Stopping at the top of the pass to prepare lunches for all our runners, we met Mikki and Morgan from Miami on a motorcycle.

They were very happy to meet some of our runners from other countries and to learn a little bit about our journeys. Posing for a few scenic photos, we made snowballs from the nearby snow all around us which was quite a contrast to the 110 degree heat we were in just a few days ago in Nevada.

As we descended the other side of the Pass into Idaho, the vistas were still spectacular as snow capped peaks were everywhere until we came to level ground where our run for the day was to start. Running towards the city of Idaho Falls, the scenery was idyllic with rolling green pastures, cows, horses, rivers and small canyons. As we ran past this beautiful scenery, the clouds were dancing in the sky moved by a gentle breeze caressing us as we ran along the highway.

This may sound like an ideal day, but still we had to run for many hours, and the challenges of covering the miles on foot as well as dealing with fast moving traffic constantly coming at us can make the day seem quite long and tiresome.

We ended the day with a great meal at Blue Hashi’s Restaurant in Idaho Falls. Dyreth, the owner and head chef was very friendly and generous in offering our whole team a great choice of Japanese style food including various types of vegetable sushi. His immediate and enthusiastic acceptance of our team and our message was very uplifting and inspiring to all of us.

The Hampton Inn of Idaho Falls offered us rooms for the night due to the kindness and generosity of Laura Ballard who immediately responded to our need for accommodations with understanding and kindness. It is people like we have met today from Wyoming to Idaho and many of the other places where we have run that really make the World Harmony Run an event of oneness and goodwill among all people. We cannot begin to express how important this is not only to us but to all those who sincerely work for harmony in the world in their own unique and personal ways.

Gratefully,

Team Harmony
