USA 20 April: Baltimore, Maryland to Washington, D.C.
This morning representatives from the Coppin State University greeted some of our runners as they ran through the city of Baltimore. This school has received us many times in the past and always makes our run through Baltimore a memorable one. We are so grateful to them and the local media for coming out and offering us a warm and heartfelt reception.
.
The rest of the team was busy all morning with a wonderful reception and program held by Oneness-Family School. After holding the Torch with many of the young children who were expecting us and so excited to see us arrive with the Torch, we were hosted by the whole school of over 100 children with songs and dances related to the themes of harmony and friendship. As a multicultural and multi-ethnic school, the Oneness-Family School offers children a wonderfully stimulating and creative curriculum based on ideals similar to our World Harmony Run.
Sharing the whole morning with the children, staff and some of the parents, we were uplifted and energized by their participation and creative offerings.
Some of the older children even hosted some of our frisbee playing runners to a challenging game of Ultimate Frisbee in a nearby park after a torch relay.
We are extremely grateful to Andrew Kutt, the founder and principal of the Oneness-Family School, all of his staff, and especially to the children and their parents. Their participation in this global expression of harmony, friendship and oneness will be valued and appreciated deeply in our minds and hearts as we carry the torch with their goodwill around this vast land.
The School of Schools
The visit to Oneness-Family School has been blazed into my memory since 1997. I was so very impressed by the curriculum, the staff and the amazing children. This year’s visit to the school proved to be even better. Not only did we get a sincerely heartfelt program of songs, speeches and dances, but on top of it all we played my very favorite sport, Ultimate Frisbee. We were once again completely shocked at the capacity of these children. They place excellently at a level that none of us avid players could have anticipated. I can’t wait for these children to be in position to lead our country to unforeseen heights.
Our deepest gratitude to Oneness-Family School!
