USA 19 April: Delaware State Line to Baltimore, Maryland

After a comfortable stay in complimentary rooms at the Media Inn in Media, Pennsylvania, our women’s team left early in the morning to run in Delaware as we made our way south along the East Coast.

As we headed towards the big city of Baltimore, we were greeted by the Mayor, Judith Cox and the Clerk/Treasurer, Sandi Didra, in the town of Rising Sun, Maryland. They presented us with a Proclamation which named this day World Harmony Run Day in Rising Sun.

They also offered us the first in a collection of town pins which will adorn our hats as we make our way down the road, running for world harmony and friendship. The goodwill offered by people like those in Rising Sun will never be forgotten as it gives us strength to go on another day, to ‘tomorrow’s sun’.

Running on Route 1 as we head west and south, the hills are starting to get longer and more challenging. The sun was still glaring down on us most of the day, but finally the clouds appeared to offer us some protection as we were winding up our 96 mile day. We are also enjoying the trees and flowers that are budding profusely now as we enter into this season of newness.

With all the encouragement offered by many of the local people along our route and the beauty and energy from nature herself, we are able to keep going down the road running with the World Harmony Run Torch, knowing that at the same time, many other runners around the world are doing the same thing, in perfect harmony.

Special Thanks

We would like to offer special thanks to the Media Inn for their continued generous support. The Media Inn has received us with enthusiasm every relay since 1989. We are on a first name basis, and we are very grateful.

Thank you to the Outback Steakhouse in Springfield, PA for providing a terrific dinner on the night of the 18th. We enjoyed it all, even us vegetarians fared quite well.

Thank you to Quiznos Subs for providing subs for the entire teams lunch the next day. Definitely, one of the best subs I've had in ages. The whole team looks forward to the next Quiznos we encounter.

Thank you to Old Country Buffet in Baltimore for providing our girls team with a couple very nice all you can eat salad bars.

And last but not least, we would like to thank Applebees in Baltimore for a very nice round of veggie burgers and non-alcoholic beers. Your generosity carries the team even longer than the food.
