Sweden 6 August: Umea - Örnsköldsvik
Our first day in Sweden! Our team arrived in Umea last night, by ferry from Vaasa (Finland).
A typical Swedesh Hotel?Umea is the most northerly point we reach in continental Europe; only Reykjavik, Iceland is further north! So we were really surprised to find such nice weather here. Some people told us that the summer actually started today!
We had a meeting in the main square with the City Director of the Cultural Department.
A TV crew was there, too...
Umea is a candidate for the European Capital of Culture in 2014, so we got nice T-shirts and the chance to hit a special gong!
We spent the first day running all the way to Örnsköldsvik, home of the Swedish Ice Hockey Champion.
Life on the road...We got a first taste of the endless Swedish roads through green forests. The next days will take us through the western part of Sweden: less people, but lots of nature.
Finally, we arrived in Örnsköldsvik. A meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, so we enjoyed our "freedom" and did some sightseeing today.
