France 29 April: Sartene - Col de Bavella

Today we enjoyed an easy day of running.

Our first outing brought us to Bonifacio, the famous city on the southern end of Corsica.

Located on impressive cliffs. the city fortress greeted us and we took of for a run in the hills around Bonifacio.

We continued to Porto Vecchio, where the deputy mayor and the city sport representative welcomed us in the local stadium.

We met also some athletes, and refreshments were served.

After continuing along the east coast, we finally headed into the mountains. Now we realised what Corsica is famous for.

Scenic roads everywhere...

A 30km climb up to the Col de Bavella (1218m) was the highlight of the day! The snowy mountain peaks greeted us when we reached the top.

Wild pigs can be found everywhere...

Donkeys too...

Corsica's most beautiful nature...

Our final destination was the Megaliths of Cauria, an old, mystic place located in the south of Corsica.

Dining at the monastery...
