Germany 8 September: Bad Durkheim - Saarbrucken

The day had a fresh start at the world`s biggest vine-barrel in Bad Dürkheim with a reception with the mayor. He very enthusiastically ran with us a lap around the funfair, which takes place on the occasion of the world's largest vine-festival, the "Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt" .

From the name of the festival you would get the impression, that basically you can mainly buy meat there, but they sell 600,000 litres of vine within the 9 days the festival lasts.

But what a coincidence, now the world's longest relay-run is here! So the mayor was very happy with all these superlatives and had arranged a private ride on the ferris wheel for the Harmony Run Team. Wow! The view was amazing!

We would have liked to stay for a whole day here. But the schedule was very tight as today's goal was to run 130 km in 9 hours. So we stretched our legs and got ready to hit the road again. After a warm farewell by the mayor and his team, the first runner set his pace to Saarbrücken where we would meet some friends and stay overnight in their house.

We ran through little villages and towns and enjoyed the beautiful nature. Around noon I got a phone call from a bus driver. The bus was on its way from Kiev and on board was our runner friend Natalya a very talented ultra-runner. She was on the way to Saarbrücken to meet the team. But after many hours in the bus she did not want to wait until the next day.

So a few calls and four hours later she managed with the help of a friend in Saarbrücken to meet one of the Harmony Run buses on the road and was warmly welcomed. She was so eager to run; she could not get enough that day. And we were happy that our team was reinforced.

In Ramstein Volodja practised his English whilst telling some school children about the Harmony Run. Although he knows only a few words, their eyes and smiles were obviously acknowledging that they understood him.

It was a beautiful sunny late summer's afternoon and back on the road we made our way onwards. In the meantime Ondrej, the captain of the international World Harmony Run Team and Mark had arrived from Iceland in Saarbrücken and so finally the new team was complete.

That evening we happily enjoyed a delicious meal of our hosts Edeltraud and Dietmar who were so kind to provide us with everything that a runner needs after a long day on the road.
